How do I sync a run to strava- with the actual route details of the run

I’ve been using strava for years and assumed my new Apple Watch would sync easily to strava. I did a run, using the Apple workout app and added Apple health to strava but all that syncs is a high level description, date, time and distance. How do I get the route data across?

I found the answer... its actually an Apple Health setting.

If I go into workouts within health and scroll to the bottom of the list there's an option "Workout Route Data Sources & Access". Within there is an option to enable different apps.... including strava. It was toggled off, I've enabled it and then gone back to strava where I've now been able to import the data successfully and can see the route.

Its a somewhat well buried option.

Hello IanTApple,

It seems that Apple Health isn't recording the route information. Have you tried the previous suggestion of making sure that route tracking is enabled?

If it is not enabled, you can enable this by tapping Settings> Privacy> Location Services, tap Apple Watch Workout, then tap While Using the App. Next, complete a new workout to verify if the route is now being recorded.

If you still are experiencing an issue, Contact Apple Support.

Cheers!

Hello IanTApple,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It seems that you currently are not able to see the route for a recent workout when trying to sync your Apple Watch. You are trying to sync the information between your Apple Watch, the Workout app, and the third-party app Strava. Is the route not showing in the Workout app or the Strava app? Or is there no route recorded at all?

If the route isn't being recorded at all, first make sure that route tracking is enabled on your iPhone. You can enable this by tapping Settings> Privacy> Location Services, tap Apple Watch Workout, then tap While Using the App. After the workout, open the Activities app, then tap Workouts, choose the workout, and then tap the map.

Run with your Apple Watch.

If the route information isn't showing up in the Strava app, try the following troubleshooting steps, testing after each step:

  1. Verify the app is up to date.
  2. Verify the app is added in the Health app. Manage Health data on your iPhone, iPod touch, or Apple Watch.
  3. Remove the app and download it again. How to delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
  4. Contact the app developer directly. How to contact an app developer.

We hope this helps!

Cheers!

thanks, i just checked and that is set. But like i pointed out above Apple Workout shows a map of the route I took. My assumption here is that Apple Activity is the app that seems to track what i'm doing, Apple Workout is a subset of that. Using my iPhone I can see the WorkOut and the route and various other data.

Strava seems to pull its data from Apple Health not Apple Activity.
