Target display mode
I am trying to use target display mode with a 2020 MacBook Pro and a 21.5 inch mid 2011 iMac connected with a usbc to mini displayport but my command+f2 is not working. Any suggestions?
MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Your new MacBook Pro is too new to use with Target Display Mode.
Per: Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support
You can connect any of these older iMac models to another Mac from 2019 or earlier for use as an external display...

That is what the Apple text and your own testing seems to indicate, yes.
Or use a display with Thunderbolt/ DisplayPort connectivity, or an adapter to some other interface and display,
Apple recently made changes to that linked article around the 2020 Mac restrictions, and marked the article as deprecated.
