New 2020 MacBook Air, dead on arrival, fan noise, will not charge

I purchased a new 2020 MacBook Air (base model), and received it a few weeks later (I guess because of Covid-19 related delays).

I was excited to get it, but it wouldn't turn on until I plugged in a charger. Then the fans kicked in, loud, and stayed on throughout the set up process. The computer stayed stuck on the "language" screen for at least 10 minutes. Very, very slow set up process. When trying to log in, it froze, then the screen went black. Even left overnight, it wouldn't charge past 1%. Never had an Apple product behave like this right out of the box.

Has anyone else experienced this?!
