'No Signal'

When I turn my Apple TV on, the light blinks for a few seconds, a box appears briefly with the words 'Retrieving Data", then a box stating 'No Signal" replaces it. I've tried turning everything off then on again, with the same results...

The status light on the Apple TV should flash slowly during startup.

The status light on the Apple TV would glow continuously when it is on and functioning.


“No Signal” is typically a message from your TV that it isn’t getting a video signal from the selected input. Try disconnecting the HDMI cable on both ends, then re-connect. Try connecting the Apple TV to a different HDMI port on the TV. Try connecting the Apple TV to a different TV. Try connecting a different HDMI device to the HDMI port on the TV that the Apple TV was using.

I tried everything you suggested, to no avail. I was frustrated and just turned the Apple TV off. A few hours later, I was amazed to find everything come back to normal! The Apple TV did seem to download a new app. I was able to back out of that and return to normal. I wonder if the unexpected download had something to do with the earlier malfunction... Thank You very much for responding!
