I hope the IRS is aware of the fact that development for new Microsoft Internet Explorer features has ceased, and any remaining support for it will be effectively phased out over the next twelve months or so.

Something's not right with the information you have been provided. I have no doubt that some government websites remain mired in the past but Microsoft Edge is the closest you will get to MSIE today.

Try selecting a User Agent that placates the ill-conceived websites you require: Use the developer tools in the Develop menu in Safari on Mac - Apple Support.

Seems to me with my Mac, a newer Safari or Firefox, etc will work fine.

What version macOS or OS X does your Mac use? I use IRS sites with

El Capitan and Firefox; or Mojave, direct to their site; for all access.

That an 'official government site' would fail or ask you to use an ancient

browser; is not correct from any angle. And does not make sense.

Maybe you have other issues?

Best of luck!🌻

In Windows 10 (2004) Internet Explorer is toast, and even the Edge browser has now been replaced by Microsoft's spin on the Chrome browser. At this point in time, I would expect Microsoft to begin offering a Mac version of their Chrome-based Edge browser for Mac, and Internet Explorer will neve see the light of day again, except on Windows 7 or earlier.
