how do you change apple pay verification phone and text numbers if they are out of date

Apple pay verification I am trying to set up Apple pay. When i get to the section for verification phone number it is set to an old phone number i no longer use. I have checked and updated my icloud account details which only contains my current, correct number. There is no option to choose an alternative verification method nor update the number. Any help appreciated.

Apple texts verification code to old number. Why? I am adding a new credit card to Apple pay and the verification code is sent to the old number. Everywhere in Apple, my "new" phone number is shown. Under Apple ID: New number. Under settings for apple pay: New number. Under iCloud: New number. I called it my "new number" but this number has been updated about 6 months ago. What is wrong with Apple Pay??

Go to settings>Wallet & Apple Pay>transaction defaults - change anything that needs updated.
