Apple texts verification code to old number. Why?

I am adding a new credit card to Apple pay and the verification code is sent to the old number.

Everywhere in Apple, my "new" phone number is shown.

Under Apple ID: New number.

Under settings for apple pay: New number.

Under iCloud: New number.

I called it my "new number" but this number has been updated about 6 months ago.

The Apple Pay verification is done based on information provided by your bank, as the purpose is to confirm that you're an authorized user of the card, not the Apple ID. You might not have updated your contact details with your bank. Hope this helps!

I am adding a new credit card I received today. I signed up with the current phone number...

Edit: But you were right!

Chase issued the card and because I have a checking account with them and they still have my old number also and somehow Chase was keeping my old number as the primary numer!

Thank you!!
