My MacBook Pro A1502 Died & I need advice.

Last week my beloved MacBook Pro A1502 suddenly died. The night before it was fine. Went to turn on next morning and nothing. No fan sound. No power. No lights. Nothing. I checked my charger. It seems fine. I did the reboot thing (Control, shift, option, power) suggestion. The charger changed from orange to green and back to orange. Still nothing. So I got a new battery. Installed it. Still nothing. What could it be for it to suddenly die? I’m extremely careful with it. It’s never been dropped. No water exposure. It literally just died without warning. It took me forever to buy it so I treat it well. I’m completely heartbroken, especially because I’m not sure I can ever save enough to buy a new one due to freaking cancer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don’t have a apple bar where I live so I can’t take it in to troubleshoot for free. Best Buy was $99 to tell me it’s dead. Can it be the hard drive? Does MacBook have a motherboard that could have suddenly died? I’m so lost and really upset. Thanks for any advice.

Yes, just be careful not to have the internal components touch any conductive or metallic object or surface. It is best to open the display and stand the laptop on its right side to test this. If it powers on, then you can try hot-plugging the battery (i.e. reconnect the battery while the laptop is still running) and let the battery charge at least 10% before powering off or disconnecting the charger.

The quality of third party Lithium-ion batteries is extremely poor so there is a good chance the battery is defective. I only recommend using an Apple original battery if Apple can perform the repair. It is more expensive, but the battery is much more likely to work and last much longer. Unless you still have the original Apple battery, then having Apple replace the battery is no longer an option unless an AASP understands they can still purchase the battery for you at a more expensive price from Apple.

If you need a third party battery, then the best option is to purchase one from OWC. Another well respected forum contributor mentioned that sometimes you may actually get an original Apple replacement battery from OWC.

Edit: I should add this is only for troubleshooting purposes since most recent Apple laptops will run much slower without the battery connected, but the laptop will (or should) power on and run (even if it runs very slow).

My brother did. He works on computers but he’s a service member so he was only able to visit for a few hours. He put in the new battery and told me to let it charge. I let it charge overnight but there is nothing new. My brother is unavailable to me now because he only had a short visit and is back at base.

i purchased the battery off of Amazon. It arrived the morning of his visit. He saved me from having to pay to have it done. I am returning the battery and asking for a replacement. Maybe I got a bad one. I don’t know. I just know nothing is different and I’m very upset & puzzled about how it happened so quickly. I use it everyday. I take very good care of it. There were no warning signs that anything was going wrong.
