Album artwork not downloading/showing in iTunes on purchased music

Lately I have noticed that on multiple music purchases that I've made, the album artwork does not get downloaded/displays in iTunes. I've tried several times to download the album artwork by triggering it manually, but keep getting the message that says "Could not get album artwork for some albums." Again, this is for music that I purchased through the iTunes Store. This seems to be an issue specific to iTunes, because the album artwork (for the same songs) automatically downloaded on my other devices (iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV).

MacBook, macOS 10.15

The provided solution is not what I expected. I know I can add my own images as album artwork - the questions is: why should I have to add my own images to albums that I have purchased through Apple? It’s like buying a CD at a store and not getting a case and having to buy the case separately - non-sense!

Same problem here. Yesterday I bought 2 albums on iTunes. Downloaded just fine BUT with no artwork.

Earlier in the evening I loaded up 4 CD's onto my Mac and the album art was loaded instantly without even having to request it. Strangely it seems going back to buying used CD's to import is now a more efficient practice.

I'm on a new iMac running Catalina 10.15.7

I have had the same issue since Apple made the switch from iTunes to Music. The artwork is in Music, but when you download the song, the file icon does not have the artwork, just a generic music file icon.

It's very frustrating because I use iTunes Match and I download all of my music onto a flash drive to play in my car; I no longer see the album artwork on my car's display for songs I downloaded since the change.

I was hoping it would be fixed in Big Sur, however still having the issue.

Hi BluKeys and All,

I had this same issue, i.e. purchased an album from iTunes and downloaded all of the songs to my Mac but the Artwork didn't show. After much Googling (which also brought me here) I found so many different solutions involving backing up and then deleting my library so I could rebuild it, but it all looked so overly complicated.

In the end, the way I resolved this was by opening the Music/iTunes App on my Mac, going to the account menu at the top of the screen and clicking sign-out. I deleted the album in question (sending the files to my bin) and then signed back into my account via the same menu (had to enter my username and password). This put the album back in my recently purchased with the artwork showing, I then hit the cloud icon to download the files to my Mac.

Hope this helps those of you with the same issue.

Hi,

I've tried following the steps offered above but I'm still having issues.

When I attempt the steps File > Library > Get Album Artwork, I get an error message saying "could not get artwork for some albums." This occurs for me on albums I've purchased on iTunes recently (within the last 2 weeks). Artwork doesn't appear on the album cover view or on individual song's information tabs.

Would appreciate a bit of help :)

I am seeing the same issue as well. Hopefully Apple can fix this bug. I just purchase a couple of songs and albums and half of them do not have the artwork and the download the artwork is not working. I never had this issue when using iTunes, so there seem to be a bug with the communication between the music apple application and DB. I am running the Catalina 10.15.6 OS and Music version 1.0.6.10.

Hi, once you've signed back in, if you go to recently purchased, you should see the album. Hover over the album with your cursor and there should be a cloud icon on the bottom of the cover art appear, click this and it'll download. This is how it works for me, but I'm using a Mac (not sure if you're using a PC?). Also, this of course will only work if you've purchased the track from Apple.
