Apple Watch 5 doesn't show correct distance for indoor walk

20 minutes on my treadmill shows .70 miles.

Apple Watch shows .14 miles

So I tried to calibrate according to the directions

21 minute outdoor walk shows .94 mi.

20 minutes on my treadmill shows .70 miles.

Apple Watch still shows .14 miles

Now what? My speed on my treadmill is usually 1.8 - 2.4 so it I usually do 2 miles an hour.

How can I get the watch to record properly on a treadmill so I have an accurate account of my workout?

Hello cwbrandt2,

It looks like your Apple Watch is not recording your activity properly when you're recording a treadmill workout or outdoor walk. We know how important it is to record those activities properly and meet your goals. You've come to the right place for help.

Let's take a look at the article below and see if those are the steps used to calibrate your watch:

Calibrating your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy

Once the calibration is complete go ahead and walk through the resource below on working out with your watch:

cwbrandt2,

Thank you for following up with the additional information about your workouts, and the steps you have tried. For an indoor walk, the recorded distance can be affected by your arms not swinging as you walk on a treadmill. The resource below will offer some guidance when you check under "Make sure that you earn Move and Exercise credit":

Get the most accurate measurements using your Apple Watch

In regards to your issue with the start workout feature not working automatically, we'll want to follow the link we sent previously for working out with your Apple Watch under "Get reminders to start a workout".

Keep us posted on your results after those steps and the reset. We'll be interested to know if the issues have been resolved.

Take care!

I thought I replied yesterday, but maybe I'm losing my mind.

As I mentioned in my post I had already done everything to calibrate the watch. I read it all again and had not missed anything on the list

But this time I noticed a way to reset the calibration data so I did that.

Then I walked outside 10 minutes yesterday and did .44 mi, and today did 18 minutes and walked .56 mi.

I just did a 31 minute indoor walk but my watch and the iPhone activity app shows I walked 149ft.

The only thing that I noticed in researching this today was that the outdoor app works on wrist detection. I would assume that the indoor one doesn't since like many others, I have a treadmill desk and only rarely swing my wrists indoors. Swinging my arms makes me nervous that I might not walk straight and might trip on the treadmill.

I just reset again but I don't have much hope.

BTW THe start workout reminder has never worked for me either. The end workout reminder works, but that isn't the one I need.
