Kernel Panic on startup.

My 2009 iMac used to work just fine before 2017. Since 2017, whenever i try to turn it on, It gives me a "Kernel Panic" Error. And each time it restarts itself, It just shows another one. I have never been able to even get to the login screen. It just shows the apple logo for like 5 second and then boom, Kernel panic. A couple of days before it gave up, It was acting really weird. First off, The task bar thing at the top dissapeared, and then Safari would crash each time i opened it. Thanks, Flyguy1982

Flyguy1982,

Please post the most recent KP report she we can look for potential causes of the KPs. Considering the age of the computer, I would not recommend spending any money on it, it's now pretty much considered a relic as you likely know. To find the log of reports please do the following:

  1. Launch Console.
  2. In the Console app sidebar, select the folder named Library/Logs.
  3. Select the DiagnosticsReporter folder.
  4. A list of reports is displayed. Select the most recent crash report to view it.

Either save the report to your desktop and attach it to the reply to this message or try to copy and paste it into the reply to this message. I would try the former rather than the latter.

Sorry I did not read your post carefully, I see now it gets to the Apple logo and stops there. A few questions:

  • Is the HD original? If not please describe what you installed and did you include the cables for the cooling fans when you upgraded.
  • Did you upgrade the RAM at any point?
  • Have you attempted to reset the NVRAM and restart in Safe Mode? Instructions for each are in How to reset NVRAM on your Mac & Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac
  • Finally, is there any third party antivirus, cleaning or any other "maintenance" apps installed?
