updating Cloud Music Library
My cloud music library has been trying to load my library for days now. I finally decided to try iTunes Match. It still does not finish loading. It has been hours. Please help.
Thank you.

I don't know why, but for some reason I had assumed we were discussing Music in Catalina, I guess because macOS 10.15 is in the original poster's signature. For iTunes you would delete the file iTunes Library Genius.itdb from the iTunes folder in attempt to fix the problem with genius and iCloud Library not updating properly.

Try File > Library > Update Cloud Library.

Ah, not good then. With Music closed locate the file ~/Music/Music/Music Library, right-click on it and select Show Package Contents. delete the item Genius.itdb and empty the trash, then try again.

How big is the library? How long have you left it? It may be a big task. Does your computer go to sleep while working on it?

I have the same issue... did all the steps and now it does not load the library at all.. or even allow me to play any music even if it's not in the library. Seems like the app is damaged. Is there any way to reinstall Music without having to update to Big Sur or reinstalling the whole OS?
Thanks for the help!
I'm having the same issue. By doing "File > Library > Update Cloud Library" it just restarts the whole process again for me
Less than 200 songs, over 24 hours I've been waiting
How do I find said file~/Music/Music/Music Library? I tried using the finder. I am having a similar problem...
Thanks!
I am not seeing these files in the path mentioned. Is there a different instruction if I upgraded the OS to Catalina?
I recently updated my MacBook (2013) to Catalina. Music is stuck on "updating cloud music library" - I deleted the genius.itdb file but it is still stuck. Help?
How frustrating. Try signing out of your Apple ID. Close Music. Hold down Option+Cmd as you start Music again to open it in safe mode. Sign back into your Apple ID.

I had the same issue, and this solution worked.
Glad it helped. 🙂

I was able to locate the file ~/Music/Music/Music Library and right-click, select Show Package Contents, send the item Genius.itdb to the trash and delete the trash. I'm still having the "Updating Cloud Music Library" wheel go round and round. My computer does not go to sleep while it's working.
~/ is Mac shorthand for your user folder /Users/<Username>. Once there open the Music folder (or start at the Music entry in Finder's sidebar) and then the Music folder inside that.
