Accidentally deleted reading list on Safari (Catalina has been updated)

Accidentally deleted the reading list on Safari (am on the latest Catalina update - iMac). Tried to restore from Time Machine but deleted by iCloud in the sync process. Tried to recover from iCloud recover Bookmarks which apparently also includes reading list. This happened earlier today so the reading lists should be there - but don't appear to be there.

Any advice? Apple Support could not provide an answer.

Thank you.

In Catalina System Preferences : Apple ID, deselect iCloud : Safari. Restore your Bookmark.plist to Safari from your Time Machine backup, and let Time Machine backup again to capture this restored file. Launch Safari, and see if your reading list is restored.

If the first paragraph is satisfactory, then revisit that System Preference and select iCloud : Safari again.

As soon as you whacked the reading list within your Safari Bookmarks.plist file, that removal was synchronized to iCloud without the reading list content. Provided you had a current Time Machine backup, you would have restored the /Users/yourname/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist (after making a copy of it beforehand), and your deleted reading list content would then have been restored on your Mac, and automatically synchronized to iCloud.

I essentially did what you suggested but the Reading List did not restore. Do you have specific steps that you would suggest. I restored from yesterday's Time Machine after it was accidentally deleted. Tried to restore and because nothing shows up in iCloud, the synchronization resulted in deletion of the Reading list again. Apple Support wasn't able to restore using the Time Machine copy as well.

It would be helpful to have specific steps to follow.

Thanks
