Block iPhone #images!

iPhone iMessage #images

Okay so be easy on me I know everyone is going to say I’m too strict. I just really want an answer and no questions please. This is a long story. I’ve been trying to search this for years and I am sick of spending endless hours on google and bing and apple trying to figure this out. I’ve even tried to contact Apple about this.

Ok so. Yes I have kids Yes I have screen time Yes I know about every restriction there is.

I have phones locked down to the max. We use desktops and iPads but phones I want locked down as tight as I can - for reasons I don’t wish to disclose at the moment.

Now onto the question.

iMessage. We all know they have the annoying app sticker store that can’t be deleted. I know how to hide the bar. I know I can put “don’t allow to install apps” and the app sticker store will “disappear”. I have that done. My issue is mostly with #images. I know how to make those go away too but I’ve actually found a loophole. Well. My kids did.

There’s explicit gifs in there. I have begged Apple to restrict them for years or let me know how. For example if someone sends a gif. It will say at the bottom “giphy sent via #images” and if you click that it will bring up the App Store or images even if it’s blocked! I can’t control if someone sends them a gif and this allows them to open it

Also, a glitch within Apple I have discovered. If you go to your iPhone iMessage list. As if u are going to try to hide them or add them to the app bar, the search bar at the top that says “search iMessage apps” if you type #images it will actually let you access them. Even if they are blocked.

I just want a way to either get rid of the search iMessage apps bar that is listed once u click the three dots where app sticker store is. Or just something I can do. Disabling iMessage doesn’t work. I have looked for app ad blockers that may let me remove that search bar and I can’t find one.

I’m desperate. Like willing to pay someone to help me with this since a lot of you are tech geniuses.

Thank you for the reply.

yes I do already have #images completely disabled. Also I have apps to where they can’t be installed. That takes care of that. But, as shown in the photos, searching within iMessage apps brings up #images. If they click that, they can still access everything someway somehow. That’s why I’m tryin to resort to a way to block it or just anything. Yes, they absolutely do make it hard. Maybe even impossible to completely disable.

I don't know too much about screen time, but deleting the #images worked and removed it from the search bar when I tried for a experimental run.

You could remove the #image app from their phone by going into messages, press on the message app selector (the bar with 3 dots inside), then swipe left to delete the specific messages extensions installed on the phone.

Disabling the #images might still retain the data on the phone and just hide it behind the curtains. I want you to attempt to wipe/erase the dang thing outta the phone altogether using the steps shown in the quoted above. LMK if it still shows in the search bar.

You’ve tried really hard; I haven’t seen a way to disable it, although I have a vague recollection of someone accidentally deleting it by deleting the image database. I will see if I can find that reference.

It would be good to let Apple know: https://apple.com/feedback.

It also occurred to me that even if you could find a way to block the images, it would not prevent anyone from sending images to your children’s phone.

Also just to add. I’ve tried changing our region to regions where gifs are restricted. I’ve been on the phone with Apple 3 times. I don’t know what else to do.. I even disabled iMessage but found it’s still there even with no Apple ID logged into iMessage. I can’t believe the search bar will bring up gifs even if they’re completely restricted.

For the problem, in the excerpt shown below.

Perhaps someone else can answer the giphy question. That thing is like embed hard into the messages app. Reason that it's so hard is that they never intended/designed the app with ability for anyone to straight up disable letting images being sent.

Yes, it’s strange how it works but it shows up in the search bar only if you click edit and it shows the list of disabled iMessage apps. If you type in #images and click enter, it will let you click #images in the search bar and it lets you access them. I know that’s super intense and strict of me to have figured this out. I just wish there was a way they couldn’t be accessed this way

Ok, so for the Giphy question. You can prevent images from being sent by disabling the function for ALL images to be received. Therefore, he/she won't be able to get a link that would enable her to access online photos.

1) Sign out of iMessage on her phone (<<< MOST IMPORTANT STEP)

2) Go into Settings>General>Restrictions and enable restrictions. You will be asked to set a passcode - make sure you pick something you will remember

3) Scroll down to the Allow Changes section.

4) Disable changes for Accounts

MMS will also possibly be needed to be disabled alongside this. (Contact your carrier for info)

Note: All future messages when doing this will have to be SMS, aka text thru the cellular provider and not the internet.

Yes it still shows up. You have been so incredibly helpful, much more than the 3 apple representatives I’ve spoken with. Thank you for showing me how to disable all pictures.

now, if only we could figure out this image issue. I’m so confused how it still shows up just by searching #images in the iMessage search bar! I have it completely turned off and restricted. And deleted! So how on earth does it still pull it up. I hope I can find an answer. I’m not kidding I’d literally pay someone at this point lol
