do i need to be using wifi to access my icloud?

I need to make a movie for my job and want to quickly upload the files to icloud, do i need to be connected to wifi to upload files to icloud. Additionally I want to use the files to make a movie, must I then download them from icloud onto the hardware storage on my mac?

MacBook Pro 13″, OS X 10.11

Yes, to access content on your iCloud, you have to be connected to Wi-Fi unless it has been downloaded onto your MacBook Pro, which should be automatic.

If you want to use the photos and videos in a project, you will have to download them onto your Mac. A quick way of doing this is simply dragging the content to Finder.
