I have a thumb drive with various MP3s (recorded talks and not proprietary) that I would like to add to iTunes so that I can listen on phone, iPad etc. I am frustrated that this seems to not be an easy thing to do. Suggestions please?

Messing around underneath an app such as Music.app, directly accessing its files or folders or database, might not end well, FWIW...
