iPhone Xr frozen, lights up but doesn't respond to swipes

Hi. My Xr seems to be frozen. When I press the power button my screen lights up and indicates charge level but it will not respond to swipes. When I press the pwr button again the screen goes dark. Soft restart does not work. Ideas?
