Hi8 Tapes Transfer to MacBook Pro

Hi. I'm trying to transfer Hi8 analog camcorder tapes to my MacBook Pro.

I have a thunderbolt hub, so I can connect extra USB ports. I also have video capture adapter which has a USB connection. As I have just 2 RCA cables (video and audio), I connect them to the grabber. When I have to connected to the Mac it doesn't recognise the USB port as being connected. I've tried all ports. The grabber manual says it should connect automatically to QuickPlayer. I'm stuck! Please can someone help.

Hello Little_Bear55,

Being able to import photos and videos from your camcorder, and other devices is very important. There are a couple things you may want to try to isolate the issue. Do any other USB devices have issues connected to this Thunderbolt hub? Do you have any other Thunderbolt-to-USB adapters to try connecting the capture device? If possible, can you try the capture device with another Mac, preferably one with built-in USB? Is the capture device significantly older than your Mac? You may want to reach out to the manufacturer of the capture device and verify with them what is a supported configuration (OS version, tested adapters, etc), and/or if there may be a firmware update for the capture device.

It may also be worth trying an SMC reset, and seeing if the device is detected in safe mode:
