Messages freeze and white screen

Hi all,

Often times my messages app when opened won’t show any text messages. If I receive one, I will be able to see the message history, and then it will show up in the messages app, but the rest of the text messages won’t. I’ll have to restart my phone to get everything back. Sometimes I’ll click on a text conversation as well and the app will crash.

I have a large number of texts on my phone. Is that why it is happening? Is there any solution other than having to delete them?

Thanks!

Hi hawkkoh,

We understand the Messages application is just opening to a blank page. We're happy to help.

We'd first recommend checking for any available updates on your device. Here's those steps: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You'll also want to check the device storage to make sure you still have available space left. Here's how to check that: How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Are you storing your messages directly on the device, or do you keep them stored in iCloud? If you're not sure, you can navigate to Settings > [your name] at the top > Messages, to see if that option is currently enabled. If you are storing the messages in iCloud, there could be a connection issue causing them not to show. try turning off the Messages option on that page, wait a few seconds then turn it back on.

We hope this helps. Cheers!
