Type Mandarin pinyin on an Ipad with external keyboard
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to type Mandarin Pinyin tone marks on the iPad with an "External keyboard"?

Yes, to do that you would go to settings > general > keyboard > hardware keyboard and tap over at the right edge and choose ABC Extended as your keyboard mapping. Then the tones can be made using option key shortcuts. Here is a chart
