OK, I have found how to resolve the issue.

Seems like when you click on "Scaled" radio button it shows some-type of predefined (maybe recommended) resolutions. If I click on the "Scaled" radio button with pressed "Option" button, it shows list of all possible resolutions and here I can see 5120x2880.

Thank you Grant for you help!

Yes, I am connecting with a ThunderBolt cable, LG has in out of box.

Here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210205 Apple says "You can use the LG UltraFine 5K Display with these Mac models at full 5K resolution: .. MacBook Pro introduced in 2016 or later.

So, my MacBook Pro must support 5k resolution. I have tried another MacBookPro 13, also 2018 model, have same result and I have tried MacBook Air 2019 - same - no 5k option.

Wonder if LG monitor has some kind of defect.

For 13-in MacBook Pro before 2020 models, I think you still have to connect with TWO cables and use Picture-By-Picture in the display and "Extended Desktop" in the Mac.

Generally, models before the 2020 model can not go wider than 40196 wide with one cable. Apple made some sort of accommodation for The LG displays along the way, but I can't recall the details.

I found some more information.

Are you connecting with a ThunderBolt cable?

I think that is supposed to work over ThunderBolt for the LG displays ONLY in Catalina MacBook Pro 13-in from 2017 or later, because Apple doubles up the two display-data pathways in the ThunderBolt cable to get effectively Picture-by-Picture using two data streams across one ThunderBolt cable.

Requires Intel Integrated Graphics from Kaby lake or Coffee lake processor or later, so the 2016 get left behind. (may be better support in later MacOS for additional ≥4096-wide displays)

First use this display to check the ACTUAL resolution being used:

 menu > About this Mac > (system report) > Graphics & Displays ...

there will be two lines, the top one is actual resolution

The second one is User Interface (UI) Looks like ... which describes how TEXT is scaled to appear. (that is what is shown in displays Preferences)
