Sudden partial double screen displays

My MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) suddenly displays a partial duplicate screen. It doesn't show side by side, but one partial screen above the other - the full screen, including the top menu and the Dock!

Am I accidentally hitting a key that does that? It has happened twice, and the only way to change it is to Restart. Not a real problem, but it's certainly not normal. I've never had this happen through two other MBPs in 12 years.

Thanks so much, Jeremy. Actually, I finally sent an actual photograph from my phone. Your top notch Apple Support recommended "Resetting the NVRAM". I did it twice, since there was no startup sound or second sound, so I wasn't sure I did it correctly. That worked.

For anyone having such a strange incident, see instructions to do so here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

Had that not worked, it was suggested setting up another ID to see if it happened under that identity. Thankfully, there was no need to do that.

Thanks again!

Hi swissbird,

We see you are receiving a split screen that is not reproducible. We want to make sure you're running the latest version of macOS available.

How to update the software on your Mac

If you continue to see this, we will want to do a SMC reset. We want to make sure only the power adapter is connected during this reset.

Have a great week!
