My Apple TV is model no A1427 (3rd gen). I can airplay to it from my ipad. What do I have to do to make it work with my macbook? TIA

We see that you're unable to AirPlay from your Mac. We understand your concern, and we'd be happy to help.
If you've already tried the steps in the article that was listed in the thread you posted, let's have you create a test user on your Mac and test to see if the issue remains.
Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac
Also, double check the system requirements for using AirPlay.
