iMessage on a device with a different Apple ID?

I'm heading into graduate school and am looking to purchase a new Macbook Air. I plan to keep my old Macbook Air which holds files from my Bachelor's degree. I don't want those files on the new device, but I don't want to get rid of them either; hence, why I'd like to keep both devices. I don't want everything associated with my Apple ID (iTunes, Photos, etc...) to carry over onto my new computer. Basically, I want a fresh start on this new device.

My solution is to have a second Apple ID. This seems to be the best solution for me. My only concern is whether I will be able to log into iMessage on the new device. The new device will have a different Apple ID than the one linked to my iPhone (and old Macbook Air). Is it possible to use iMessage on a device that uses a different Apple ID?

The goal: Fresh start on a new device where I will be able to use iMessage. Is this possible??

Any guidance would be much, much appreciated!!

That should be possible. A new ID isn't related to the old ID. They are completely separate even though you are using both IDs.
