NYTimes / iTunes Subscription Issues

I recently upgraded my NYTimes app subscription through iTunes to be all-access. This means I should also get access to the NYTimes Crossword & Cooking apps. However, my login (both my Apple login and my NYTimes login) will not work in the Crosswords or Cooking apps.

I called NYTimes and they say it's an issue that Apple needs to solve (because when the NYTimes looks at my account on their end, they don't see me having an all-access account, since it's billed through Apple).

I called Apple, and they say it's an issue that NYTimes needs to solve (because according to them, all Apple handles is the billing).

Is anyone else out there having this issue?!?! Please help!

There is certainly some sort of breakdown between the Apple system and the NYTimes system, because my subscription level is recognized by Apple but then not implemented by NYTimes. Plus the fact that both say the other is at fault is seriously frustrating.

I am actually in the process of trying to get a full refund from Apple and do exactly what you say by going directly to the Times.

Thanks for your response!

Bisquick,

The NY Times has at least two levels of subscription: Basic Digital Access and All-Access. Since Apple is commercially handling your subscription, they should be very clear what you are paying for and need to accurately convey that to the NYT.

If it gets too frustrating, cancel the subscription through iTunes per these steps: See or cancel your subscriptions - Apple Support and then subscribe directly to the NY Times: https://www.nytimes.com/subscription Then you can access your subscription directly through the app.
