Just updated Safari to 14.0 and can no longer set Open to Top Sites in Preferences ... well, can no longer find any trace of Top Sites.
Just me, or is this an intended change that just leaves me wishing that I had skipped the update?

you can also "add bookmark " to "favourites":

Text Editor had been removed from my default program, for some reason, so I've now been able to open it.
Where did you find it please? I cannot seem to locate it on my MBPro.
Totally agree. But having switched from windows to apple in 2011, and now being 68 years old, I don't wanna go through a new learning curve again. Grrrr...
i am not a tech savvy person. how do i do this? where is the home option?
Apple should be ashamed of themselves for not warning their customers about removing Top Sites.
This is horrible. I would not have updated if I new this was going to happen. I really miss Top Sites. I used it as a graphical bookmark page and now I don't know how to get anywhere.
Except Top Sites was the only real reason that Safari was better than Chrome, as far as I can tell.

Has anyone just had the Safari update 14.0.01 ? I think they have put Top Sites back ?
OK, looks like listing Favourites to show the URLs that I had on Top Sites at the head of the list gives the closest workaround ... feels like stepping backwards in terms of presentation (icons too small for what used to be a quick glance, now requiring me to search and read labels or guess what smaller icons represent)
I wish I had read your post before updating Safari this morning 9-17-2020. I wish there was a way to go back. I had my Top Site screen set for items i used the most which is easier then favorites. The new option on the screen is too small and does not allow you to set the links that you want to show. I cannot believe Apple made this change without a BIG warning. I hope it can be reversed before I spend hours coming up with a new way to work. I will not trust future updates even when they say security improvements.
Top Sites was my absolute favorite feature of any browser I have ever used! Annoyed, frustrated, and irritated are all understatements. Still waiting on the phone to try for a direct answer, butI'm sure it will be fruitless. I suspect they are currently deluged with aggravated users. This is what happens when they original visionary of a company dies. Those that remain think they know better than him. Everything is suddenly new and ruined. Your new pile of horse dung is NOT appreciated Apple!
The show Topsites option is gone. It has been completely wiped from preferences. Looks like it is gone for good people.
If you go to Add Bookmark, the option is still listed, but does nothing. Looks like they missed one. NOT HAPPY APPLE!!!!

I just spent about half an hour moving stuff from my "favorites" to folders in my bookmarks and reorganizing just the pages that I want to appear in the "home" page when I press on the little symbol that used to take me to my top sites. So irritating. I was used to pressing on the little dot matrix symbol and getting the pages I used most often, so now it's almost the same... I appreciate the tips.
sorry, i thought you asked to know where to find the button. i get the same results that everyone else woke up to this morning. the button looks like the top sites button, but opens the start page for me just like everyone else.
