Turn App Library off?

Anyway to disable the app library in ios14?

I don’t want it, my apps are already organized on my Home Screen.

The App Library is a feature only there for users who wish to use it, sadly apple has no way to disable the App Library at the minute but until a feature like this is added you can not swipe over to that screen, to get back home screens that have disappeared go into jiggle mode by holding an app down and clicking edit home screen and click the dots at the bottom of your screen and check or uncheck the home screens that you want visible.

Sometimes I consider posts like yours( my humble opinion) technical support. You have reminded everyone of what they’re saying, how to say it and where to say it. You’ve thoughtfully reminded users of what this forum is for. That is technical support.I also believe if it has evolved into a place to vent your dislike of a feature it should also allow a place for others that find value and functionality of that feature to express their experiences with this feature. We can all learn from each other. I’ve actually learned more about utilizing the feature from some posts describing their displeasure of it. Although, it is time to move the constructive criticism and suggestions to Apple feedback.

Im guessing Apple Pay’s keen attention to the subject matter on these boards. As such, they are likely aware of the displeasure many users have with this new feature.

  • while it may be beneficial to some
  • it is obviously an interference for others.

my guess is that Apple will consider this hotly debated topic and provide the ability to disable the feature in an update.

good day,

I wanted to back up my phone this morning and instead of backing up, my phone was restored to factory settings after getting a notification that it needed to be updated. After updating the new OS, my phone was restored to my last back up from July deleting quite a few apps that were extremely important. Lots of lost data. Now I’m stuck with updates that I really dislike and are not all user friendly as apple employees will lead you to believe. Some things are better left alone. Even trying to set my alarm for tomorrow is strange. Really Apple?!

*I’m sorry that you ended up in this situation, but there is absolutely no excuses for not backing up your phone every single night with iCloud. Plug it into to charge, leave it connected to WiFi, lock the screen and walk away from it. My phone (and my iPads) backup every single night. I will never understand why users refuse to follow these easy steps to insure backups take place every night. There is no excuse for not having a more recent backup than having one from July.

**You can control when your devices update. Turn off automatic updates. You can also turn off automatic downloads of the iOS software as well.

So nice for you that you are so responsible. For others like myself, I hate iCloud and refuse to back up to it. Yes Apple makes it super convenient but then gives you a small amount of space and wants you to pay after you have exceeded that amount. (I recently purchased a new Apple desktop and realized that Apple sets anything you save to default to iCloud. I turned off iCloud one day and everything saved to my desktop disappeared. A notice told me that I had 30 days to copy everything back to my desktop from iCloud or it would be lost. ) As for automatic updates, that is off too. I plugged my phone in yesterday hoping to back it up, a glitch erased everything instead and then updated my phone with new junk I don’t like or need. In talking to my husband this morning, he said this also happened to him when he tried to back up his phone last night. As for July being the last time I backed up, not that it’s any of your business but I’ve been very busy with work and honestly it feels like it was only last week.

**Just FYI, I’ve been in the Apple family a really long time. My dad worked for Apple and we even had original products like the the Apple IIe and IIc with the awesome floppy disk. I’ve seen the progression over the years and the control. I’ve also seen and heard about them releasing stuff before it’s ready just so they can make that dough. But thanks for your concern about my backing up practices. Maybe next time instead of scolding, you can post a hack on how to reverse things.

Well there's the rub. If there isn't a more recent backup to restore from there is no hack to get data which is now gone. You don't have to use iCloud. That's of course your choice. But if you don't backup more frequently, you can only blame yourself for not backing up.

If you read the Apple Support article about updating iPhone, the first thing they tell you to do is backup your device BEFORE you attempt the update. Had you taken this easy step, you wouldn't be here asking how to get lost data back.

Thanks again for missing the point. The hack I was looking for WASN’T for lost data. It’s for the removal of the newest update. I plugged my phone in to BACK UP current data NOT UPDATE to iOS14. The back up starts, then I get the notification that my phone has been restored to factory settings (which I did not choose) and then goes through a major overhaul then after adds my data from July. To recap: trying to backup data, did not want update. I didn’t come on here looking for a hack, there are other websites for that. I came on here to share my experience for others that that may encounter the same thing and for them to be careful. I’m also not looking to get lost data back. I can find most of the info I need and the rest is gone forever.

When people use the feedback link to alert Apple to an actual issue, they'll act quickly. If people like you on this thread complain to Apple demanding the option to turn off App Library, you'll likely believe your request fell on deaf ears, because Apple didn't immediately give you what you asked for. In that regard I guess I can see why you may think they didn't listen.

Even if EVERY person who posted in his thread provided feedback via the link it would be equal to a a teeny tiny incredibly small percentage of users to Apple in terms of customer feedback.

Wow. On the attack for no reason. They are very helpful when I do have an actual issue. Which I did and not related to my phone. My comment about not enjoying the new features was a little blip at the end. Cute that you think I’m complaining and demanding like a child. I’m not an idiot. In my last comment, I did say they want people to give it a chance. They MAY address this in a future update but will also take into consideration the amount of complaints they receive.

Oct 20, 2020 9:53 AM in response to lv2prty

Wasn't attacking you at all. Sorry if you interpreted it that way. My comment was more in general to the tone many who have written into this thread all up in arms over this new feature. It was not really addressed to you and yes, I saw your thought maybe Apple wants people to give it some time to see if their feeling about it change.

Again, wasn't attacking you.

Okay, thank you. I do agree people want immediate change (especially this day in age with immediate gratification available for many things) and are unhappy when they don't get it. I started off just trying to share my experience but no matter what, I'll still be a loyal Apple customer for years to come. They do make things fit together seamlessly and (unfortunately for my pocket book) make awesome new things that I need to have. haha
