iPhone camera not working after iOS 14 update

I had this problem for a while on my Iphone 7s this is all what I did:

1st - Confirm that it is indeed a software problem. I did it by using the ebay App and in the search used the camera functionality. Indeed my camera and flash were working fine from ebay, so it must be a software issue.

2nd - I did a Reset All Settings. I'm not sure if this is necessary but as I mentioned I'm listing all the things I did until it finally worked. For this go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings. Make sure you read about what Reset All Settings will do to some of your configurations like WIFI, Apple Card Pay etc. and take precautionary steps if deemed necessary.

3rd - I removed the NFC Tag Reader from Control Center. Setting - Control Center

4th - I turned on the Flashlight and then opened the Camera. Again, still did not work but I'm listing all I did until it finally worked as I don't know the relationship between all these steps and the final outcome when it finally worked.

5th - Finally, while the camera is opened, hit the 1x button to enter into 2x zoom, voila! The freaking camera is working now!

I hope someone at Apple can take a look at this and resolves the OBVIOUS software issue. Maybe give me a freaking discount! :-)

Finally I could solve this problem on my Iphone X. While the phone was upgrade, some protective components are damaged and may cause some to disconnect. It sounds crazy but that happened on my iPhone. A technician opened my iPhone and just put the front camera connector in its place, which had come off. This was my solution, an unusual problem but luckily it worked for me. I hope it serves you

On my iphone 7 I had the camera replaced in the regular mobile shop, 45usd. Now it works.

The camera failed to work after 14.3, the 14.4 didn’t help so I decided to replace, no more updates for me.

iOS 14.0 broke my iphone 7 front facing camera. I was hoping 14.1, 14.2, or 14.3 would fix it but no luck. Apple just pretends its a hardware issue and they're ignoring it.

The iPhone X is to new for them to break on purpose so you're forced to upgrade. I would make sure you have a current back up and then do a full reset - that should solve it.

@figante when I turned off the NFC reader, my camera worked again, but I was still having mic issues and couldn’t video call on any application. I did a “reset all settings” - so I didn’t lose anything except settings. After this I was able to video call, mic worked, etc.

Just tonight I’ve realized I can’t record video only take still pictures.....so not sure what is going on. It seems like the issues float in and out (and probably aren’t able to be recreated by Apple’s QA people which is why they can’t claim the issue or fix it.)

They want you to restore your phone completely, because it wipes out all previous installs of iOS. I'd back it up to a laptop and do a full restore. It solved another problem I was having with Bluetooth pairing of a heart rate monitor for exercise but did nothing for my camera.

I have noticed that if I open control center and wait for the NFC icon to flash (which it doesn't always do) then the camera and flash will work for a period of time. If I wait, it stops working again and it stops working if I reboot. It seems that when I get it working it will work just fine for a number of minutes before it stops working.

This phone was purchased new and the only thing done to it was the Apple Store replaced the battery in December of 2018. I tested my restore on a different iPhone 7 and it's fine. So, there seems to be something specific about a few iPhone 7's that 14 doesn't like but 13 is fine with. Dunno if something was disturbed when having Apple replace the battery caused this or if that's totally unrelated.

I calles the technical support for a diagnosis, and now is a “hardware” issue, so they advise me to replace my rear camera.. someone else has the same problem or your camera is not “broken” for apple?

No update is going to fix the issue. Only thing is getting a new phone. Either buy one or keep hounding Apple until they replace it. I did for bout 3 weeks (1 time a week) then finally Apple care called me on Saturday and offered to replace my 7+ with 128GB iPhone XR. After I sent mine in 3 days late I got a new phone. No not a refurb in a sealed box

my front facing camera option stopped working 2 days ago before the 14.4 update on my 7+. It stopped on all Videochat apps. WhatsApp video calls failed. Instagram video not an option. Messenger video not an option. Selfie in camera app not functioning. Tried every single thing. Restarting, power off for a while, reset settings, updated to 14.4, contacted Apple Support. *Nothing is a fix.* going to try to backup my phone and restore to factory settings.

Nothing besides just keep contacting Apple customer service like I did until someone decides to fix the issue by replacing ya phone. Even give them the link to this thread and stay on them every week.

I think the iOS14 update damaged the some part of phone’s motherboard which is connected with phone camera because i have seen many customers are still facing camera problem even after camera part replacement(paid). As a software engineer the one thing i know is that the any new iOS update will not repair the damaged hardware again.

This problem began with iOS 14.0 and was not resolved in 14.1, 14.2, 14.3 or 14.4.......

More people have reported that it doesnt work after replacing the camera. Its not a hardware issue its a software issue.
