ios14 FaceTime disappeared

Hi All

I have just updated iOS14 on my iPhone XI Pro Max and FaceTime has disappeared; i live in the UAE but the device was bought outside the UAE and therefore without restrictions on use of FaceTime - how can this be restored?

Thanks!

Have you ever tried to change your region from UAE to another region in the Settings.

Theoretically from iOS14, even if you bought iPhone from UAE, the facetime APP can appear when you changed your region to another region.

I've tested it successfully.

Hi, you can check this: FaceTime Showing “App Requires Specific Features” Error – Explained

The reason FaceTime is showing this error on your iPhone is that your iPhone doesn’t support FaceTime. If you bought your iPhone from UAE or certain other middle east countries, FaceTime will not work. It’s because these countries have banned FaceTime by law. Talking about UAE, it has banned FaceTime and all other VoIP services. They don’t want these apps to surpass its voice call monopoly. Hence, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority or TRA, which is a sate-run carrier service in UAE, has banned VoIP apps. If you buy a phone from these countries FaceTime will not work. You can not even install the app on your iPhone. However, if you bought your iPhone from any other country, say the US or India, FaceTime will only show this error if you are visiting any of the middle eastern countries where it is banned. That said, you can use a VPN to use FaceTime in this case.

Andrei, thanks for this - unfortunately this makes the issue even weirder as my model does not end with those letters (AA) and I purchased the device at an airport duty free to overcome the UAE problem. Have been living here for the last 7 years and, being aware of the restrictions, never had a problem. I last used FaceTime yesterday evening but post update of iOS it just disappear. On the App Store, additionally, when I look at the info, it is mentioned that the device supports the app

That is the weirdest thing I've ever heard, facetime should be available on almost every single iPhone unless you're using an insanely old phone. I can only suggest that you proceed with backup and restore since there isn't a way for me to troubleshoot an app store. If it still is unavailable after your backup and restore, it may be an hardware problem. If it does come to that, Contact Support to schedule an appointment or for online assistance.

Yes, that’s absolutely perfect. However, I haven’t not seen apps getting removed just by entering or leaving an country, they only get blocked and are not removed completely from the device. So the current path is still to try to recover FaceTime if possible using backup and restore. Ignore my previous hardware opinion then.

In short: We are trying to get back stock apps.
