Battery is not charging

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)


I've taken it to the Apple Store for this same issue twice now. Both times, I was informed it was not a hardware issue, and the problem was solved at the Apple Store itself. The second time, they did a factory reset and confirmed it was not an issue with the logic board or any of the other hardware. For a few weeks after each of these appointments, the laptop works perfectly and the battery charges as per normal. However, it's been 15 days since my last visit (2nd September) and now the issue has restarted. I'm rather unhappy, since I've been told it's not an issue with my charger, or the hardware, and my laptop was factory reset in case it was a software issue (which I didn't really get to back up properly).


The issue is as follows: when plugged in, the battery icon shows the following image. It does not charge, and loses charge at a regular rate.

In fact, even when unplugged, it shows the exact same icon. I've tried every single port and I've checked to make sure the wire and plugs are clean. Still the same issue. It persists even after a full shutdown, including resetting the system SMC.


The last two times this happened, when the battery reached 0%, I was unable to restart my laptop until I went to the Apple Store. I'm hoping that I don't have to keep doing that every two to three weeks at this point.


At this point, I'm just lost, confused, and angry. Please let me know if you have any idea how to fix this problem. Thank you.

Try resetting the SMC.
