Why is there a red dot next to battery percentage on iPhone?

There is a red dot beside my battery on the screen of my Apple iPhone. How do I get this to disappear? Why is it on?

How can I get rid of the red dot on my phone? It is on the top right corner

I have the red dot next to the battery indicator when i am on a call and my touch screen will not work. When i touch the screen it goes blank.

Seems it means the microphone is active. If there is a green dot, it means the camera is active.

The color of the dot varies slightly if your using Dark vs Light modes.

Just a suggestion.

In many contexts, it means a hot (or live) mic, not necessarily that anything is being recorded. But maybe you're too young to know that. ;-)

The red dot showed up on my Apple watch 4 and phone at the same time a few days ago. Apparently after latest update. I just searched support and it’s was because I had a message on my watch. Swipe down on watch to get message. Red dot is now gone from both devices.

I was on the phone with Apple Support for hours on other issues Sunday!! However I asked them that question, it means your microphone is on. If it turns green it means you’re currently on a call, FaceTime, etc. So glad to get that resolved and my other issues!!!!!😩

That is a completely different issue than the subject of this thread.

That means another app has activated your microphone! Not cool! I was typing an email and called out to my dog! That was recorded and typed into my email!!! Wtf

apparently the green light means your camera has been activated!!! Again wtf what happened to privacy

You can get rid of it by never, ever using anything that uses the microphone. So, don't make calls, use Siri. Don't use speech-to-text.

There is a very easy way to turn it off. Never use anything that utilizes the microphone. This would include, Siri, voice memos, FaceTime, phone calls. If you are ok with losing that functionality, you will not see the dot.
