Why is there a red dot next to battery percentage on iPhone?

Under most circumstances the dot is orange, however if you have a dark background, it can take on a slightly red appearance. It has nothing to do with recording, it is an indicator that your microphone is in use.

What does that have to do with this thread? An indicator that your microphone is in use cannot cause those problems.

sorry there is so much going on with this phone that I can’t resolve. I’ve just turned my phone off & on again & the red dot has now gone. But I do have other problems. Do I need to start again on a new thread?

Yes, it would be better to outline your other iPhone issues in a new thread. As threads like this get longer and longer, it is more difficult to navigate the various replies.

Me too, I still see that red dot next to my battery percentage sign (since iOS 14.0, and later).

I am more concern about our privacy and security whether we are on a call or off a call.

I’m getting a red dot next to my location symbol but only when someone is calling me which I can’t hear them nor can they hear me. Basically I can’t send or receive calls...HELP

The red dot appears next to my battery whenever my phone is locked. I have Siri off and all the apps that use a mic off too. What else can I do? It’s really annoying me

Sorry if this is stating the obvious, but just in case, could you have (accidentally) activated Siri? Because then the mic would naturally turn on to capture your command.
