Why is there a red dot next to battery percentage on iPhone?

How can I get rid of the red dot on my phone? It is on the top right corner

The red dot appears next to my battery whenever my phone is locked. I have Siri off and all the apps that use a mic off too. What else can I do? It’s really annoying me

The color of the dot varies slightly if your using Dark vs Light modes.

You can get rid of it by never, ever using anything that uses the microphone. So, don't make calls, use Siri. Don't use speech-to-text.

There is a very easy way to turn it off. Never use anything that utilizes the microphone. This would include, Siri, voice memos, FaceTime, phone calls. If you are ok with losing that functionality, you will not see the dot.

I too started noticing it and in most contexts a red dot (like on any audio recording device) means “Record”.

Maybe the apple software engineers are too young to know this???

Another icon or colour would be much more self explanatory????

In many contexts, it means a hot (or live) mic, not necessarily that anything is being recorded. But maybe you're too young to know that. ;-)

What does that have to do with this thread? An indicator that your microphone is in use cannot cause those problems.

Yes, it would be better to outline your other iPhone issues in a new thread. As threads like this get longer and longer, it is more difficult to navigate the various replies.

I have the red dot next to the battery indicator when i am on a call and my touch screen will not work. When i touch the screen it goes blank.
