Home automation not working since update to tvOS14

I just updated my phone and Apple TV (main hub) to the latest version yesterday.

My Fibaro motion sensor still displays as "motion detected" in the Home app when someone moves in that room. It also sends HomeKit notifications to my phone almost instantly when motion is detected, so it is definitely connected and working

But it no longer triggers the automations set up for it, that turn on a couple of lights. It worked like once or twice, but not the other dozens of times it should have. Turning on the lights from the Home app works just fine, so the lights aren't the issue.

I tried creating a new automation for it, and rebooting the TV, but it's still not working.

Any ideas what I should try next to get this fixed?

  • Try restarting your iPhone as well .
  • Make sure you have everything on the same wifi network. Keychain on, Bluetooth on.
  • Using the same Apple ID
  • Try rebooting the wifi modem
  • Try resetting network settings in the phone: Settings- General - Reset - Reset Network settings- this will also restart your iPhone
  • Make sure Home is enabled in settings: Your Name- iCloud - Home . If it is on, toggle it off, then back on again

I think I fixed it now!

When I updated the TV, my old iPad with iOS 12 started acting as the hub, and I suspect the motion sensor connected to it. When the TV came back online and became the hub again, the sensor stayed connected to the iPad, and that's why it was triggering a notification and appeared in HomeKit, but wasn't doing the automations (even though some were iOS 12 compatible).

At any rate, making the iPad no longer be a hub and rebooting it fixed it.
