iPod Classic 120GB shows error 1439 when restoring to factory default. Then stops restore process.

Attempting to restore defaults on iPod Classic 120GB . Open current (latest) version of iTunes on up to date PC. Plug in iPod to USB port using Classic iPod USB Cable. iTunes begins extracting files...then stops abruptly returning error code #1439. I am able to "eject iPod." And iTunes does throw Classic iPod up on the iTunes Control Bar until error 1439...then Classic iPod icon disappears from control bar.

Update: iPod Classic hard drive beginning to fail...failed. Trip to Apple Store on the agenda this weekend. Apple does not support a 2008 iPod Classic 120GB. Anything older than seven years...is no longer supported online. Apple Store Techs may be able to "fix" this? Well see. Standby.

Without seeing the stats I can't tell you if the device has really had it, or just needs a more thorough reset. If the drive has failed Apple may have an expensive out or warranty service option, or you can investigate third party or DIY drive replacement.
