watchOS 7 Battery Drain
I updated my series 4 Apple Watch to WatchOS 7 today. I use my watch all day and usually have about 30% battery left when I go to bed and start changing. Today my phone got to 10% by 2:30 pm! Why is this drawing so quickly?

No need to be disappointed. It rectifies itself. To quicken the process power down both devices, leave powered off for 5 minutes then power on powering up the iPhone first and wait until it has fully loaded before switching on the watch.
Same problem here. Series 5, gps version. Normally 50% in the evening. Now 10% warning at 19:00! Installed os7 on friday.
Turned off optimized charging from beginning.
gps tracking also not working, just can see the start-pin.
Same w/ series 4. Thought I was going crazy but I guess this is happening to a lot of people. Usually have 50% by the end of the day but yesterday hit 17% by the time I took it off. Hope there’s an update soon
I had exactly the same issue.
I tried most things including removing all apps, turning off hand washing etc.
in the end what seems to have worked is to unpair and then set up as a new watch. Bit of a pain having to set up faces how I like them and Apple Pay etc but battery seems to be much better...
No, it won’t as I did that and it didn’t work for me, so mind the condescending tone please. Also, even if it did corrected the whole thing, we shouldn’t have to unpair and re-pair.
As an update I am I repairing now for the second time and will set as a new watch to see if that works (because I had nothing better to do with my Sunday 🙄)
Before you unpair, go to your name under settings and see that there is a iCloud backup for watch.
Then go to watch app on iPhone click on All watches (right at top) click on ‘i’ button and start with unpairing.
Once un-pairing is done, you will see option to pair Apple Watch in the app. Your phone will open camera automatically and your watch will display a different kind of bubble shape, scan from phone camera and start pairing. It will give you option to restore or set up as new watch. Choose restore from back up. Choose the latest back up (will be right at top). you need to remember your Apple ID password. Then follow phone screen. Will take approx 40 odd minutes to restore fully. Keep
watch on charge. All the best
Same problem. WatchiOS 7 is killing the battery on my Watch Series 4. A 5 k run not using it as a music source cost me jut over 30% of my battery life and 2 hours of making breakfast and reading the newspaper another 15%. 55% at noon when I only got up at 8:30 and did not wear it while asleep so it was fully charged is a big bug. What gives? Apple really needs to fix.
Had the same problem as everyone. Very frustrating. AW4, non-cellular. I un-paired and re-paired, from the backup, and it's back to normal. The only thing not working now is that my watch doesn't want to unlock my iMac. It worked nice before the unpairing and before and after the watchOS 7 update.
I don't see my iCloud profile photo anymore in the watch settings. But I can download apps from the watch so I know my iCloud account is active on the watch. Very weird.
I will probably set up as a new watch when I have 2 hours ahead of me to reconfigure everything. Until then, at least, the battery life is now back to normal. There is hope out there!
I had the same issue on my Apple Watch Series 4 after updating to iOS7. I tried shutting down background app refresh, and ensured sleep app and hand washing apps were off.
This didn't fix issue so I read on some other forums about repairing to your iPhone. So I did a reset on my watch. I restored using the same backup I just reset and today the problem seems to be gone. After a 2hour walk I have only went down 13% which is normal level. When I was running out of battery my watch was showing a 35% drop after my walk.
if restoring from the backup didn't work I was going to try setting up as new watch but obviously I didn't have to go that far.

I tried the unpair and repair this morning and the initial results are promising. I had lost 3% in the first 15 minutes after taking my Watch Series 4 off the charger. Since the unpair and repair about 90 minutes ago, I am down only 2%.
I will be going on a run here shortly. We shall see how it goes, but I think this will be better than it was.
So this battery drain issue has plagued me for days now since I updated my Series 4 Cellular to WatchOS7! I had tried all kinds of potential solutions including resetting, recharging, checking all apps & settings even more; nothing seemed to help! Today reading a post here, they suggested unpairing & repairing the watch might work (they said it did for them) so I thought what the ****. Well, after unpairing then repairing restoring using iCloud backup, the battery seem to drain even faster! I sat there watching the battery app on my watch drop as I looked 1% per couple of minutes! So since the battery was already low, I decided to put it on the charger (it’s Sunday and I’m not going anywhere or doing anything so...). Gave the watch a full charge 100%. Got it and now after over 3 hrs it’s still at 97%!!! Just sayin...not sure what happened? Full charge? Don’t know but I’m praying it’s fixed at least until Apple investigates and updates!
Just adding to the chorus of complaints on the quick battery drain on my Series 4 with cellular. The watch battery was already woefully inadequate when using it on cellular to listen to music, podcasts, etc. Now, with this 7.0 update, my watch can't make it past 5:30 PM without a re-charge when it was fully charged by 7 AM. and this is WITHOUT ever using the cellular feature!
Well I unpaired and repaired roughly 2 and a half hours ago. My watch was charged to 78% when I took it off so I could continue with my day. Since then it has only died 3% which seems normal, especially not being fully charged when I put it back on. So for me the unpairing and repairing seems to be the solution. I will see what happens later when I go walk my dogs and tomorrow
MY FIX! I updated my Series 4 to OS7 late on 9/18 and the battery drain was ginormous. I charged it up to 100% and put it on for sleep monitoring at 12a. The battery drain in the morning (8a) of 9/19 left it at 76% instead of an average with OS6.2.8 at 86%. During 9/19 it dropped rapidly from 76% to 10% by 2p (normal average by 2p was 59%). Around 11a I rebooted (held down the side button until it turned off then hold down the button until it restarted) and reset (held down both the crown and side button together until it shut down and then held down the side button until it restarted. I also turned off "Optimized Battery Charging" on the Watch at Settings/Battery/Battery Health and Background Refresh for all apps except for a few health monitoring apps at iPhone/Watch app/General/Background App Refresh but the battery went down to 10% at 2p and was nearly dead at 2p. The average hourly battery drop for an entire day (12a-8p) under OS 6.2.8 for a week in mid August was just 3.5%. On 9/19 (12a-2p) under OS 7.0 it was nearly double at 6.4%.
In the evening of 9/19, I unpaired my Watch 4 in the iPhone Watch app at All Watches/Info button after Apple Watch 4/Unpair Apple Watch. Then I paired it again and used the copy made when unpairing to restore it. I charged it to 100%, put it on at 12a and by 8a it had dropped to 82%, much better but not the 85% average or within the 2% variation from the week in August. At 11a it has dropped to 70% vs the 72% August week average but within the 2% variation. It seems that unpairing and re-pairing the way I did it has fixed my huge battery drain problem as it has for some others in this thread.
