watchOS 7 Battery Drain

I updated my series 4 Apple Watch to WatchOS 7 today. I use my watch all day and usually have about 30% battery left when I go to bed and start changing. Today my phone got to 10% by 2:30 pm! Why is this drawing so quickly?

I had the same issue on my Apple Watch Series 4 after updating to iOS7. I tried shutting down background app refresh, and ensured sleep app and hand washing apps were off.

This didn't fix issue so I read on some other forums about repairing to your iPhone. So I did a reset on my watch. I restored using the same backup I just reset and today the problem seems to be gone. After a 2hour walk I have only went down 13% which is normal level. When I was running out of battery my watch was showing a 35% drop after my walk.

if restoring from the backup didn't work I was going to try setting up as new watch but obviously I didn't have to go that far.

I had the same issue. But was able to solve it. This involves unpairing and erasing your watch. No issues so far after that. Been using for more than 48 hours now. No anomalies.

  • Unpair and reset your apple watch.
  • Connect to your phone and follow the connection process.
  • Charge your watch to 100%.

Continue using and observe the battery usage. Should most likely solve the issue.

Update:

Good new - I unpaired and re-paired the watch from my most recent backup and the battery issue seems to have been fixed.

Bad News - I cannot get the watch to unlock my Mac any more. Have tried multiple times to fix but with the following error message, despite Watch, iPhone and Mac all switched on, logged in and on the same WiFi network. Have switched all off and back on etc. Still an issue.

The unpair/pair solution helped for me as well for the battery drain problem. The „unlock“ problem was solved for me using these steps:

Steps (follow at your own discretion)

  1. Open "Keychain Access"
  2. In "View", enable "Show Invisible Items"
  3. Search for "Auto Unlock"
  4. You should see a whole bunch of application passwords for "Auto Unlock: XXXX's ..."
  5. Select all records and delete (this will reset/disable auto unlock on other Macs if you use multiple Macs)
  6. Whilst still in "Keychain Access", search for "AutoUnlock" (no space)
  7. There should be 4 entries for "tlk" "tlk-nonsync" "classA" "classC"
  8. Select 4 records and delete (don't worry if they re-appear, the system repairs this automatically)
  9. Open "Finder" and navigate to "~/Library/Sharing/AutoUnlock"
  10. There should be two files "ltk.plist" and "pairing-records.plist"
  11. Delete both files
  12. Open "System Preferences" and try enabling auto unlock. You may need to enable it twice, the first attempt will fail.

Not to foul everyone on this thread this was the solution to get my mac unlock with my watch..the battery problem solve with unpair pair solution 🙃

Unfortunately, after unpair/re-pair using the backup made at unpair, my AW4 battery drain returned to near "normal" but would not reconnect in System Preferences to Auto-Unlock my Mac Pro (Late 2013). I followed your steps #1-11 but at #12 my AW4 still wouldn't reconnect in System Preferences. I tried to connect several times and also re-booted my Mac Pro and tried again several times--No joy. I fear I may have to unpair and re-pair as a new watch instead of using the backup.

I had the same issue for the last few days. I solved it though!

what I did was I made sure my watch was backed up, then unpaired my watch from my iPhone.

then I paired it again and restored from back up rather than set up as new. It took a little while to complete the process but it has put my battery back to lasting me all day and ending the day on about 40%

As soon as I installed Watch OS 7, my Apple Watch battery life dropped to less than 1/2. I even turned off the wake screen, removed some apps and still no improvement. Early this morning, I used the workout app for an hour and a half walk and the battery was down to 63% when I finished. Clearly it has something to do with the new OS, not the way I’m using my watch, which hasn’t changed much since I purchased it two years ago.

The pairing and unpairing did not seem to work for me but the very simple method of powering off the iPhone, then the Watch, wait a short time, say 5 minutes, then boot up the iPhone and once done switch on the Watch. The problem went after that. Perhaps the pairing process done early may have had something to do with it. However, I believe even if left alone the processes of upgrading behind the scenes eventually finish and all is back to normal. We should not though have to suffer this.

I was at 100% at 05:30 this morning, it is now approaching 22:00. I am on 38%. I have used the watch all day. Used when swimming (1,000 meters) this morning and this afternoon out for a 3 mile walk.
