watchOS 7 Battery Drain
I updated my series 4 Apple Watch to WatchOS 7 today. I use my watch all day and usually have about 30% battery left when I go to bed and start changing. Today my phone got to 10% by 2:30 pm! Why is this drawing so quickly?

I had the same issue on my Apple Watch Series 4 after updating to iOS7. I tried shutting down background app refresh, and ensured sleep app and hand washing apps were off.
This didn't fix issue so I read on some other forums about repairing to your iPhone. So I did a reset on my watch. I restored using the same backup I just reset and today the problem seems to be gone. After a 2hour walk I have only went down 13% which is normal level. When I was running out of battery my watch was showing a 35% drop after my walk.
if restoring from the backup didn't work I was going to try setting up as new watch but obviously I didn't have to go that far.
Need help! I unpaired my watch while keeping it on my wrist and then repaired my watch from my backup. I did all the unpairing and repairing from my iPhone 11. Everything worked except my battery is dropping even faster. I turned on the activity workout and I am losing a percent a minute with the activity going. My watch is a Series 4. I even turned off the phone and the watch and restarted them. What did I do wrong?
I believe the issue is related to some form of processing staying on even after a workout is ended. I noticed that after a work out if I turn off my watch and turn it back on I do not have the battery drain issue. If I do a work out and end the work out and leave my watch on it drains my battery a ton. My thought is there some kind of process running in the background associate with a work out that is not turning off when I work out has ended. Although doing a restore would be a forever solution I’ll just deal with the hassle of turning my watch on and off
I had already updated the phone and the watch to the latest software prior to the unpairing and repairing. The watch battery was still dropping fast even before I started the workout. A percentage drop every minute during a workout is ridiculous. Prior to doing the workout, it was dropping a percent every 10 minutes or so.
As others have said, unpaired and re-pair as new. I also have a four (which has never held a charge for longer than 9 hours) and at least it’s back to that now instead of losing a percent a minute. I did not lose any health or fitness records.
I have the same issue with Watch series 4. I was talking to Apple support and they suggested me to get a replacement. Since my watch is now out of warranty, the replacement fee is $299, which is ridiculous. So disappointed with Apple right now, crapy release.
I just got off a chat with Apple Support. They had me send them a diagnostic and because I had just done an unpair and repair there was not enough information on the diagnostic report. I have to keep the watch going for at least 6 hours and then contact them again. They did say the Hardware was ok. They would not comment if they were having any issues with the SW update. 🤬
I had chat with another support technician and he ran a diagnostic on my watch. Battery and everything was in good condition. He has referred to senior technicians. Let’s see what they have to say. BTW there is a patch 7.0.1 released now. Maybe that fixes the problem.
The only thing left to try then, is to unpair and pair as a new watch rather than from a backup. That has worked for some but not all according to posts here. Technicians and Sr Technicians were of no help to me, just this forum.
I updated to 7.01. No problems. But I did power off both the iPhone and watch after the updates. I am not so sure it is pairing and un pairing that resolves the problem but no more than switching off and rebooting in the order of iPhone off, watch off, wait a few minutes, iPhone on, wait until fully loaded, then watch on.
I have the same issue!
Apple watch series 4. It used to work for 2 days (I did not wear it for sleep), worked like a charm. Since I updated to WatchOS 7.0, around 6-7 pm, it has only 10% battery power. It is really really annoying. I hope Apple will fix that soon!
If you have turned off Optimize Battery Charging in WatchOS 7.0 (Settings>Battery>Battery Health), be aware that updating to WatchOS 7.01 may automatically turn it on again. It did for me so you may need to turn it off again after updating.
Here is an update - I upgraded to 7.0.1 and also did unpair and pair (fresh not from backup). Also updated iOS 14.0.1. This has significantly improved the battery drain issue so far. I’ll keep monitoring for a day or so and post again the results.
The issue persists. Series 5 LTE. I used to be able to make it longer than 24 hours with about 20 percent or so to spare. Update didn’t work. Repairing from a backup didn’t work. Repairing as a new watch didn’t work. 13 hours and I’m at 18 percent battery left. This isn’t usable. I have even turned off stuff that I had enabled in OS 6.
FWIW - I've tried unpairing/pairing from both backup and as new (Series 5 watch). Neither worked. Hand washing is off. Problem seems much worse when on LTE - watch loses 30% in less than half hour. Prior to upgrade battery loss was negligible over same period when using workout app and listening to music downloaded to watch. Two chats with support. First suggested unfair/pair as new. Second gave me a link to maximizing battery life (worthless the watch isn't even a year old) and then made me an appointment at local store. Very frustrating that there seems to be no acknowledgement that there might be an issue with Watch OS7
Mine is doing the same thing. It was toggling between the time and the apple symbol. I was actually shipped a replacement watch, but now the replacement watch won't hold a charge. It was at 90% an hour ago. Now it's at 73%. So frustrating. I have updated it to the 7.0.1... didn't fix anything.
