I have 50GB free space on iCloud and whatsapp can’t backup as not enough iPhone storage... why do I nees the iPhone storage while I’m backing up to the cloud?s not

Can't backup whatsapp to icloud "enough enough iphone storage" Dear all, I have more than enough (more that 2,5x the backup size) available on my Icloud. But i can't back up because I dont have enough space on my phone. WHich is very strange since I want to back up on iCloud and free up space on my iPhone device. I found a similar post about this subject but the links the support pointed out are of no help. Still dont know how to back up to icloud since my phone itself lacks space. How to fix this problem. iCloud backup Since I switched from my iPhone 10 to my iPhone 11 I have been having trouble with my iCloud backup. I get a message saying I do not have enough storage space. My WhatsApp is not backing up at all. I have never had to pay more then 99 cents for storage. Why wound switching to an upgraded phone cause this problem
