AppleCare Cover Multiple Devices?

If I purchased AppleCare when I got my iPhone, does that AppleCare also cover my watch or do I have to do a separate AppleCare plan for my watch then as well?

I also bought myself a new series 8 watch and purchased Apple Care. I gave my son my old Apple Watch Series 7 and had purchased Apple Care when new. You need a separate plan.
