Email photo as attachment, not embedded, in iOS 14

So, no. There is no such plan.

In fact, once the minimal change is implemented, to better allow users to include their iCloud content into their rich-text emails, that I have outlined, you’ll see that there was no such “plan”: because Outlook’s flaw will come into force, once again.

Hi Richard, Apart from the odd email that catches my eye I have given up with this thread. It would appear there are some on this thread who act as though even if someone from Apple came out and killed their wife it would still be the fault of Microsoft in some way. I have never come across a thread where there are some many people who think the use of either very technical terminology or very complicated words in some way makes them more qualified to answer this subject - my answer is get out in the real world and use one in the field.

Truth is it used to work, now it doesn't, Apple have changed something which has stopped it doing what it has done for years and this has ****** a lot of people off. Apple probably have no idea of how many people were using this function as in a way it was bit of a "hack" for us allowing us to resize and send in one go from a good camera.

I came on to this forum looking for a solution, maybe a setting change but that isn't the option. We have over 1,000 iPhone's in our business, being used by people who all take photos and then use their iPhone to email them to the office and them someone in admin selects them all and saves them for sharing. If this is no longer an option but it would work on an Android then its a simple choice for us as we process thousands of photos every day. We'll bear with it for a while but it unless Apple make an option to revert back to how it was before the update then its a good time for us to look elsewhere.

Sure, Outlook is doing just fine in how it «renders» the received email.

No. The problem is not in how the received email is being «rendered», but in the way Outlook will disallow certain attachment operations (particularly bulk attachment operations) based only upon how it «renders it».

Why do you not even mention this functionality issue, in your narrative?

I, and others, have yet to find any non-Outlook derived email clients that have this misbehavior.

If you still depend on mail to transfer photos from iPhone to your PC then maybe it’s time for you to learn new tricks. Otherwise send Microsoft a feedback about thier Outlook app not being able to handle certain attachments properly.

In short, people are frustrated because they have to jump thru hoops just to save a few email files all because Apple decided that one should not have the choice to simply attach and not embed photos.

No! All this is needed cause Outlook does not have an option to save all attachments. So your frustration is placed in wrong place.

This can happen in myriad ways, without Apple doing or changing anything.

For instance, on your iPhone, you can choose a couple of different formats for your pictures, taken on your iPhone, to be stored.

You may choose another format to convert your picture to when attaching it to an email.

Your receiving email client may choose to convert the picture to another format, either when copying or saving the picture.

(I’m not sure whether email servers are “allowed” to change the formats of attachments, but, even if not, I wouldn’t put it past certain email server providers.)

If you «want the option» (to choose from available email body formats, such as rich-text [like text/html] or the nearly “extinct” [it was going “extinct” back in the ‘90s] plain-text [text/plain]), then the right and best thing to do, RussTuff, is to provide Apple Feedback by way of the mechanisms they have provided for such Feedback.

(Hint: these fora are not such a Feedback mechanism. Additional Hint: therefore, it is far from beneficial to post such complaints in these fora.)

If you would like some pointers in how to provide Apple Feedback that will get results, we can be of assistance.

Far more beneficial, would be to provide Feedback to the Manufacturers of the tiny subset of email clients (actually, only a single email client, and its derivatives) that prevents its users from performing bulk attachment operations (such as bulk-saves) based only upon the way said email clients display (render) a received email.

(It’s amassing, to those of us that have analyzed this issue, how few users even pause to consider why no other email clients have such an issue with email attachments, for received emails.)

One must be perfect before one criticises another right? What's "amassing" to us English teachers is how people can butcher the English language so badly... yet we make allowances for ignorance.

I "know" my iPhone doesn't send email attachments like it used too. Am I ignorant on "how to fix it"? yes, that's why I came here. for answers; not "hints" and telling me where to put my feedback. I came here to find the answer.

If you would like pointers on how to communicate effectively, 'I' can help you with that. Until then, or, should you provide an actual answer to the actual problem, do not rope me back into the thread using my name when you knew I was out.

Consider this… For many, like myself, English language isn’t my primary language. Yet this doesn’t stop me from coming here and helping those who actually want and/or need help.

It’s funny… Once I was told that no one really cares when you make some mistake while speaking to native English speaker as long they get you. Unless that other person is an English language teacher. Guess you just proved that person to be right with their judgment…

I am here showing my ignorance. I don't know how to fix a problem I have with my email attachments from my iPhone. I came here for help. What I didn't expect was for people like yourself that are primarily here to 'help' (as you put it) and not to help, but to tell me to complain to Apple. Seriously... that's how you help people.

Okay so I am using my iPhone and I want to send a picture. (Please treat me like I know nothing about this subject because I don't)

1. Go to photos
2. Select a photo
3. Select the little share icon in the bottom left corner
4. Check the picture I want has the blue tick in the bottom right corner
5. Press the "mail" icon

I don't see the picture as an attachment, I see it in the body of the email.

I also don't get the "What size do you want" with options like 'Small / Original / Large' (or words to that affect)

This is what I see doesn't work; and of course when the picture arrives, it's embedded.

You seem to be saying something different.

Can you please step it out so I can send emails as attachments?

Like I said... "Like I am stupid" because I am missing something here, and I feel stupid for not being able to work this out.

And yet... when I add a PDF, it looks like it is going to embed in the email, however when the PDF arrives to outlook, we get an attachment.

A photo embeds in the body of the email, and a PDF looks like it will embed, however arrives as it has always done, as an attachment.

Is there something I need to change somewhere?
