As the description states I updated my Iphone X to IOS 14 and now many app's don't use the full screen. I have Zoom turned off and have power cycled my phone. App's like facebook, Weather Bug, Chrome and many others have a gap between the top and bottom of the screen when in portrait mode.

I figured it out. Go to Settings -> Display & Brightness. Then go to the bottom to the Display Zoom. Change the View to Standard.
I had exactly the same problem with my new iPhone 12.
I use the Waze app daily as the Sat Nav, but I couldn't believe that the app wasn't using up the 6.1" screen of the phone. Reason for this is because I had the Display set to Zoomed.
As soon as I switched from Zoomed to Standard I had a full screen!
I guess I did miss that. But companies like FaceBook and Google doesn't make sense.
I did the forced restart and I still have the same issue. :-(
I guess I can live with it but I paid for the full screen I want to use it!

Change your display from zoomed to standard and that fixed it for me the apps don’t have to be updated
Yes changed to standard and reset phone again.
This seems to be tied to zoomed in mode which was an option with the update. I switched out of this and the apps take advantage of the full screen again.
