Updated to iOS 14 and now mail sends from wrong email address

It's not much of a fix, though. I did that and ended up sending out my main email address to someone who shouldn't have had it. Now using Gmail for the time being, although I don't particularly like that app. Surely Apple could have fast tracked a fix for a significant problem like this. Can such fixes to one of their stock apps only come via a whole iOS update?

I have two aliases. On my iPhone 11 Pro, I cannot turn off the aliases. When I turn them off and back out of that setting, one or both immediately turn themselves back on. I’d like to hear from anyone who has figured out a way to disable the aliases since they have completely taken control of my email account.

I believe you can disable the aliases from iCloud.com, but it turns off sending and receiving from that address. But it is different to deleting the alias, which would mean you lose that address entirely.

There are over 600 support tickets filed for this issue . One of them is mine. The issue to be addressed in the next iOS version, or at least it’s mentioned to be in the current beta.

On my iPhone IOS 14.1 I use my domain for IMAP mail. So I have (for example) aaa@my-domain.com and bbb@my-domain.com and ccc@my-domain.com.

I set aaa@my-domain.com as the default (return) address.

I gave my family my-domain. com addresses.... mary@my-domain.com, joe@my-domain.com, etc.

When I sent do any of the family members to their @my-domain.com address, the return address changes from aaa@my-domain.com to bbb@my-domain.com.

But it I send to you@gmail.com the change does not happen. All is good.

I have no idea what is happening, but it has something to do with the return address and the sending address being the same domain.

Any ideas?

Reported it also to the apple support hotline, they admitted it is a known issue and they working on it. What a mess, just sended a reply mail via iOS to a potential new employer, with my not so serious privat alias, although I choosed my "serious" main mail iCloud account. this is not acceptable!

I prefer doesn’t have an iPhone if you do this apple. You have some days only for fix this. I never update. I try never update. For these reasons. I did it because I bought the Last Apple Watch.

UPDATE: This actually doesn't "hold"... if you go in and out of the above noted mail settings page a few times, you'll see it revert. And if you just go about mailing, it reverts within a mail send or two... apologies.

Amazing. This problem was first reported soon after iOS 14 came out and has not yet been fixed. How can Apple not have addressed something so serious, or at least admitted it is a problem? I guess they don't care about their user base, which is a very stupid mistake.

I have three Mail Accounts, one of which is a POP account with three aliases. Way back I set up a Default sending account and a Default sending Account for one of the three POP account’s aliases. All has been working well until I updated to IOS 14 a week ago. Since then, when sending an email, I select the account or alias from which it is to be sent (if not the default) as usual but find that although all looks OK when sending, the recipient reports that the email has come from another of my accounts. So for example if I select account 1 to send from, it actually sends from account 3. Or 3 becomes 2 in an apparently random way. This also happens if I send mail from my 10.2 inch iPad whereas it was OK before I installed IOS 14. However, thankfully, Mail on my old iPad Mini 4 (on IOS 12.4.8) still functions normally. What’s going on?

Look’s like its finally fixed in iOS 14.1! This is from the release notes: “Fixes an issue where some emails in Mail were sent from an incorrect alias”. I haven’t updated so can’t confirm it’s been fixed but looks promising.

I have downloaded 14.1 just now. I reinstated my Gmail aliases and emails now appear to be sent correctly from either the main address or whichever alias is selected.

I can now return to using the mail app..

Update 14.1 now causes repeated IMAP errors for mail. It constantly gives the errors and I’ve done everything I can including deleting and reinstalling my mail account. Never had this issue prior to the update.
