“This site cant be reached"

In Chrome gmail, one newsletter I regularly receive in my gmail account opens fine, but when I click on a story to read it, it opens for a second, then I get a message that says :

“This site can't be reached.” This site “unexpectedly closed the connection. Checking the connection. Checking the proxy and firewall.”

Ive checked both but it doesn't help. It only happens to this newsletter.

Hi, Thanks for helping out.

I did ask the site and they were flummoxed.

After researching and finding no answer, I decided to add that site to my list of sites allowed to set cookies. I didn't expect it to work, since that list doesn't include every site I visit and I've never had that trouble with any other sites. But I decided what the heck.

Then, I emptied my cache, erased my browsing history and cleared my cookies.

It worked!

This can happen when the sub-site you are switching to (in this case, to get your newsletter) is not seen as a DIRECT descendant of the site you originally accessed, AND it requires cookies to operate.

From the perspective of Safari or other browsers, scripting may have changed what site you are connecting to, and that site is not seen as a derivative of the original site (by virtue of the site-name being subsidiary) and therefore does NOT inherit the right to store cookies, even if the original site allowed cookies.

I have this exact problem with My bank. I can log in just fine, and it recognizes me, will show may accounts and balances. To get to Bill-Pay, it loads a sub site with a wildly different name, and that site requires cookies. The Bill-Pay sub-site refuses to operate unless/until I specify cross-site tracking OFF AND allow all cookies until it can store its initial cookie.
