Apple Watch series 6 seconds hand disappears in always on display mode!

Does anyone know if the series 6 apple watch has the ability to show the second hand in the "always on" mode?

On the Apple website it states “you can see ALL the information on your watch face more easily than ever”. However, I was just at the apple store and this is NOT true! The second hand disappears on every single watch face option. False advertising!

This is unfortunate for me and my ability to use it as a healthcare provider. Will there be an upgrade or setting to change this? I understand this would put a strain on the battery though. Seems as though I’m sticking with my series 3 for now.

While desirable if it's disabled by default I'd imagine updating the display buffer would consume significant battery power which would reduce overall daily usage time significantly. Certainly a feature I'd imagine could be implemented in software as an option if enough people needed it.

Many healthcare institutions these days (at least in UK) would ban watched like this for infection control reasons and there would no doubt be cheaper effective solutions - ideally employers ought to provide them. Apple Watch is a great device, a shame many schools here ban Smart Watches even if there's a SchoolTime option to minimise interruptions.

Great feedback for Apple though. Use this link:

I agree. I was excited that the “health provider” face would take into account we need ‘seconds’ to count accurate vitals. Perhaps this could be an option in the always on display for those that don’t mind the extra battery power?

Until then, I suppose we will just have to pace our counts with a tune we can remember? “Staying alive” is popular in our field 🤣

It really is deceiving! I purchased the Apple Watch series 6 especially for the « always on » mode because I always need it for work (nurse) and sometimes, if I’m in an isolation room (like for Covid patients) or if my hands are contaminated, I can’t tap the screen.

So yes, very disappointed.

I understand that it would significantly drain the battery like crazy, but I personally had in mind to switch the option at the beginning/end of my shifts.
