I finally got it to work with the help of Apple support. Everything now works as it should, but I’m still disappointed this happened in the first place, and tHat it took almost hAlf a day to get everything set up back the way I like it.

here were the steps that worked for me:

  1. unpair apple watch
  2. make an iCloud backup of the phone
  3. go to the health app, click on your profile (top right) and look at the bottom when the data was last backed up - it should be the same time as thE Back up above.
  4. erase all Contents and settings of your iPhone.
  5. set up your iPhone by restoring it from your last backup
  6. finally pair your watch again.

then wait until everything is restored, it will take a while until all apps are downloaded again, also until all health data is fully restored. I thought for a while that I lost most of my data, but it might take 24 hours until all data is back.

it will not correct any missing map data from past runs. But today’s run shows the course I took.

last gripe: I was on a steak of 811 days of making my move target. But because the prior days calorie data was the last to be restored, it appeared like I didn’t make my target yesterday, and the streak ended. Although by now all the data is back, it looks like the count is starting over.

Same problem with syncing (or the lack thereof) between phone and watch.

iPhone 8(iOS14.0) and AW5GPS(WiOS7.0).

Steps not syncronized, yesterday 10100 steps on watch, 9000 something on health app on iphone.

Exercise registered on watch not showing up in health app on iphone, although the calories are counted.

Tried repair, but the stepcounts are still of by a few hundred, never happened before on 13.x/6.x.

Annoying because i track my goals using the phone, and if the watch is not synced, I might lose this months challenge :-(

Similar issues. Phone (x) and watch (s1) are up to date and now my exercise rings will not sync to my phone. I also now stopped getting call notifications on my watch. Every time I go into the watch app and click on any menu item the app freezes so I can't unpair. I've disconnected and turned on and off both phone and watch about 25 times, no change. Extremely frustrating, the things I use daily are not working at all.

Update for me:

I updated to iOS 14.0.1 and to watchOS 7.0.1.

After the updates, I went on a run, running the Workout app. After the run, my phone correctly shows the correct number of steps and the correct % on each ring (move, exercise, and stand). It does NOT show that I did a workout though.

In total, today I did a HIIT workout, a basketball workout, and this last running workout. All three show on my watch, but only the HIIT workout shows on my phone.

When I look at my son's phone, it correctly shows all three of my workouts today!

So, unfortunately, the updates to both devices do not help my situation.

Updated to 14.0.1 and 7.0.1. Still mismatch between activity app on watch/iPhone and the health app on iPhone.

health app is still only registering ~60% of the calories from the watch and ~80% of the steps showing in health app.

the activity app, the rings, calories, steps, exercise minutes are synced with the watch, but the graph showing standing hours are wrong on the iPhone, the count is correct.

I’ve setup (via health app>steps>data sources) that the watch should be prioritised on steps, so in my world the health app should at least show the amount of steps from watch, but it doesn’t.

so far 14.0.1 and 7.0.1 didn’t fix any of my issues with syncing, but I’ll know more in 24 hours

i’m back. Still no good news. Did all the normal stuff repair etc. visit to Genius Bar (never heard of problem - of course they haven’t). Factory restore of watch. Still no gps data tracking route. They said it was a problem with my watch and I would have to send it away. I have Apple care - so called Apple iPhone support - they advised of updates (knew of the problem) and said it would fix the problem. It did not. Back on the phone. Now with new people - never heard of the issue. The. Support guy who also runs - checks his data and realises he has not been recording go’s route data - he is distraught - he has lost all of his. In his misery he seeks out a Senior tech - he says the problem is the watch but we have to factory rest the phone before he will refer the problem up to engineers. Wasn’t able to at that point and will have to phone back again. Have just checked this thread and am now repairing watch before I go for a long run. (Had not done that or been advise to do that after the latest latest updates ISO 14.0.1 abs 7.0.1. Wish me luck and I will report back.

Mine is still broke after .1 updates but I haven’t tried repairing since the update. For the Strava peeps, the loop hole I am currently using is to track my run with WorkOutDoors watch app and then upload from the WorkOutDoors phone app directly to Strava. WorkOutDoors appears to be able to pull off what Apple cano no longer do, successfully transmitting workout data from watch to phone. Yeah, it’s not in health database right. That’s all messed up. But at least Strava has my data.

Still no joy!! After update to the next ISO releases (both watch and phone) and a repair after that (just be sure) and nothing.

earlier post recommended a workaround using third party app WorkOutDoors. Decided to downloaded (does require $) and quick walk up and down the street and yep it can track route and upload to starva. It is also much more customisable than the watch app for tracking exercise - feel much more like my sunnto with the advantage that it load directly to Strava.

next step for me is factory reset of my Phone (XR) as advised by Apple senior tech (and only possible way of getting to speak to an Apple engineer). Not keen to do this for so many reasons - has anyone had the problem resolve after factory restore of their phone?

I can confirm the steps that @pguich stated work. Mine is now fixed. They key is you have to erase your phone and settings and then restore from backup. Just unpairing and repairing watch is not enough.

  1. unpair apple watch
  2. make an iCloud backup of the phone
  3. go to the health app, click on your profile (top right) and look at the bottom when the data was last backed up - it should be the same time as thE Back up above.
  4. erase all Contents and settings of your iPhone.
  5. set up your iPhone by restoring it from your last backup
  6. finally pair your watch again.

My badges came back after a while. So did my streak. I was convinced that my streak had ended because it didn’t restore the previous day fully, but my streak is now continuing. And all badges are back. It just might take up to 24 hours.

good luck, I hope it’ll work for you as well.

and yes: I have a feeling that none of the beta testers are particularly active and only sit in their parents basements eating pizza. I just can’t believe that nobody would detect those bugs.

my Nike run club app on the watch was also buggy today, stopped counting distance after a while, then suddenly jumped to a new number. But I’ll check another time to see if it’s not just a fluke.
