IOS 14 CarPlay Audio Issue (crackling sounds)

So I have a 2021 Nissan Titan Pro 4x and just had them replace the whole radio in the truck because of the crackling. At first it did not crackle and now it does again. So my old radio and the brand new radio are doing the same thing. Sounds like a Nissan problem since you experience the same in all of your Nissans. FM/ Sirius/ Bluetooth streaming.... no issues. Only when I connect the phone via the lightening cable. Worked fine in the loaner Versa they gave me but the truck.... not so much.

Maybe Nissan needs a Carplay update for their radios...

I am interested if anyone figures it out. Very frustrating.

This is happening to me as well. Only happens in the 2020 Kia Soul I drive for work. When it happens I switch to the radio and back to media and it corrects itself. It’s gotta be a problem with apple CarPlay. I’m hooked up via USB and it happens. Most recent was a few min ago after putting the car in reverse and the backup camera popping up.

your car radio head unit needs a firmware upgrade. It’s that.

It’s actually more likely to be an issue with your radio.

Contact the radio’s manufacturer to see if they have any software updates available.

2018 FL. I dont have sat so I when I had to take it for service I asked for a firmware update. It was free of charge.

In my case after much insistence I asked Pionner to refund my money or solve my problem, the company then asked to take the device in a technical assistance and they replaced a hardware card (I don't know which one, but it was not the mainboard ).

After that the occurrence of the crackling sounds decreased, it still happens sometimes but with less frequency than before.

Previously the technicians had told me that this is due to the fact that I am listening to music via streaming (WTF) and if I have listen to the songs offline, which made me even more infuriated since we are in 2021 and no one else downloads songs to listen offline...

So, do a test listening to the songs offline on the iPhone and check if the issue still happens.

@angusjoseph: this is exactly my issue as well! I have an Apple technical support case running since Nov 20, based on the issues starting with iOS14.0. Sharing GB of data but no roadmap visible. I suggest you also create a case.

I just got home from a week spent in a rental 2021 Jeep Compass, and used wired CarPlay that entire time with zero issues whatsoever.

Just a data point that seems to point to an automaker CarPlay issue (if it was CarPlay, it would have been broken on the Jeep with UConnect, too.)

An update. Mine plays fine until start using a navigation app (Maps, Waze…). Once I tap on one of those, crackling starts. Seems to be some interference with Spotify or whatever audio app and whatever navigation app. Not sure if this is on the Apple side or the Nissan side. It’s a brand new radio so I’m betting it’s an IOS software glitch.

Same for me with my COTS JBL: it was fine with iOS13, never worked with iOS14 and is now fine again with iOS15 never changed the iPhone 8 in between)!

What still worries me is the fact that it is obviously an iOS14 issue for at least me but in many other cases, Car manufactures pushed firmware updates!? Let‘s see how this topic is evolving…

Even 15.2 does it. Some days it works fine and others it's pretty bad. Only when I am playing Spotify and using a NAV app from the phone. If no NAV app, no crackling. I feel it is a combination of CarPlay and my factory stereo but who knows.

I work for a dealership and I’ve checked and updated my radio in my 2019 Cruze and no change.

This all started the morning that IOS14 was installed for me. So NOT THE CAR!! ITS APPLE!!
