Sidecar Display Flickering

Hi all! When I use my iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd Gen) with my 2019 MbP 13" as a sidecar display, the screen flickers intermittently. It's not constant, it happens about once a minute. I have loved using my iPad as a secondary display so far, and this flicker is really distracting to me. I have restarted both devices and it still happens. Interestingly, it happens less frequently when on wireless mode, and more when connected via USB. I am running iPad os 14, and 10.15.6 on my Mac.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any help would be much appreciated!

I contacted Apple support with this issue today. They had me reset the NVRAM on my MBP and it solved the issue. Here are the instructions:

Yeah, same thing here. MacBook Pro 15" 2018 running macOS 10.15.6 and iPad Pro 12.9" running iPadOS 14.0.

I tried via WiFi as well as via usb-c, the iPad intermittently cuts out with a black screen regardless of connection type.

I hope this will be solved in an iPadOS update as I often run the Xcode simulator on the iPad via Sidecar and this flickering is quite cumbersome.

Same issue after an iPadOS 14 update.

Guess it wouldn't be a successful release if Apple hadn't f***ed something up (which is a trend since Catalina).

I'd like to point out it flickers when using Sidecar both in USB and Wi-Fi mode.

There was a point where I restarted both the iPad and MacBook and it stopped for a few days, but now it's back. I wonder if this is related in any way (deleting any networking remnants of the iPad on macOS), so I'll give it a try and see whether there's any luck.

Edit: No.

Yeah, Im having al the same issues as everyone is describing here. What helped the other day was conducting a force restart on the iPad, and the issues disappeared for 1-2 days. But now it's back again, and the force restart didn't fix it on the first try today. Try the force restart (which is apparently different to just turning the iPad off and on) and see if it helps. But I hope more people raise their concerns to apple about this so it gets recognised.

I too have noticed that my ipad display has started flickering after the 14.0.1 update, support said sensors on my device are fine.

The flicker is evident at high brightness levels and in dimly lit conditions. Suggested troubleshooting from forums has not helped me . Tier 2 at Apple seems to suspect a hardware issue and suggested manual inpection / replacement , which was a tad bit annoying.

Some other blogs suggest a 3rd party software that can fix the issue , while some youtube videos also suggest laying it down on a mat and tapping the back gently (Device CPR) . Both of which I decided not to do .

Does the the flicker go away when its not being used as sidecar ?

Do let us know

Thanks !!
