I FOUND THE SOLUTION!

I was having an issue similar to this thread: I cannot paste my copied text from one application to another application

For me I was able to see the "copy" option... but the "paste" option would only show up after my 2nd or 3rd attempt trying to copy/paste from one app to another... and also sometimes in the same app. This was happening in native Apple apps as well as 3rd party apps.

I have an iPhone 12 Pro running the latest iOS so there's no reason I should have been having these issues. I spent 40 mins on a chat with an Apple agent who kept asking the same questions but no resolution.

So I kept searching and found THIS ARTICLE!! And that's where I finally... after 3 or 4 months... found the solution!!!

"For some users, disabling and then re-enabling the Universal Clipboard seems to fix this issue. To do so, you need to disable the Handoff feature. Go to Settings > General > Handoff > Uncheck. After this, log out of your iCloud account and restart your device. Once it reboots, login back to the iCloud. Then check if the Copy and Paste not working issue after the iOS 14 update is fixed or not."

I'm not sure if that alone solved my problem so I'll also share the other two things I did, as well...

I followed the above instructions and before restarting my phone and logging back into iCloud here's what I did:

Go to Settitngs > General > Reset

  • Reset All Settings
  • Reset Network Settings

Then I shut down my phone... then restarted... then logged back into iCloud... and I'm back in business. After 4 months of being incredibly frustrated, I finally have copy/paste working again properly!

I wish I had this solution 4 months ago!

Still a problem in ios 14.8.

It’s kind of stunning that Apple manages to convert what worked into something difficult to use.

Oh, wait! It’s software rot at work. Not so swift, Apple.

I can definitely copy and paste. In the dial window I’ve realized that the window is not as large as previous versions to copy and paste - you would need to double tap and paste closer to the top of the screen rather than lower towards the keypad.

I could upload a video here which indicates this but unfortunately that functionality is not present on this site.

i have been trying to copy and paste a phone number from an incoming call, amongst copying from other screens as well, and nothing happens at all...no blue line as stated by another responder. I’ve restarted my phone several times, and it has done nothing to fix this. Why can’t Apple just leave “well enough” alone, and stop with all these confusing new updates that are crappy! iPhone 11will be the last iPhone I ever buy!

My formatting is all screwed up now with the IOS 14 update. When I copy and paste from my email into a text message, it scrambles the format. Here is an example, I will copy this information in my email:

Pickup a load of Christmas trees 12/20 8:00

North Pole Tree Farm

1 North Pole

Arctic Circle, AK

(800)-867-5309

When I paste it into my iPhone messages, it does this now:

Pickup a load of Christmas trees

12/20

8:00

North Pole Tree Farm

1

North Pole

Arctic Circle, AK

(800)-

867-

5309

So yea, something is messed up and when I send out 30 messages per day that look somewhat similar to that, it is very annoying to take extra time every time to fix it.

I never had an issue until I updated to 14.2.

Now all you can do is copy an entire text. There is no option to select just brackets of it. So, say a friend messages you a long email with a phone number in it and all you want to copy is that phone number, to create a contact later, you literally have to copy the entire text and paste it into the column to go back and forth in the editing text field.

So the problem isn’t selecting from a text that you are creating, but from a text that was sent to you.

Found this on Apple Support. Works for me:

Select and edit text

  1. To select text, do any of the following:
    • Select a word: Double-tap with one finger.
    • Select a line or sentence: Triple-tap with one finger.
    • Select a paragraph: Quadruple-tap with one finger.
    • Select a block of text: Touch and hold the first word in the block, then drag to the last word.
  1. After selecting the text you want to revise, you can type, or tap the selection to see editing options:
    • Cut: Tap Cut or pinch closed with three fingers two times.
    • Copy: Tap Copy or pinch closed with three fingers.
    • Paste: Tap Paste or pinch open with three fingers.
    • Replace: View suggested replacement text, or have Siri suggest alternative text.
    • B/I/U: Format the selected text.
