Watch app (iOS) crashes on launch

Yesterday my gf boght a S6 to go with her iPhone XR (iOS14). The watch worked properly, got paired with the iPhone and everything went smooth. Today she's unable to launch the Watch app on iOS, it just keeps crashing on launch.

Worst of all, the Watch is not reporting anything from the iPhone anymore: no notifications, no alarms.

We tried to "remove" the app, restart both devices, close the app from multitasking, sort of unpair the Apple Watch (from the Watch itself, as we couldn't open the app on iPhone) but we didn't manage to fix.

Now we can't even pair it anymore with the iPhone.

Any tips except initializing the iPhone too?

She ended up fixing it with Apple Support on the phone (we were calling to make an appointment):

- Initialized the Watch (from within the Settings on the watch)

- Unpaired the Watch from iPhone's BT settings

- Did a backup, restored the iPhone using that backup

- At this point she was able to delete the app (else it was still paired to the Watch and unable to remove!)

- After that she downloaded the Watch app again, and it started working again!

I am not 100% sure that the backup/restore of the phone is a needed step, but if you don't manage to be able to uninstall the app after unpairing the watch from BT, give it a try.

I too have same issue. Just got an apple watch S6 gps yesterday. Paired to my iPhone XR and worked fine until today when I realized its not paired to my iPhone anymore. Tried to open watch app on my iPhone and it crashes everytime. Worst is I cant unpair. I also reset my watch and now its so useless.

Frustrated and irritated with this new watch. Planning to return this useless expensive crap thing here.

For me I have Fixed the watch app crashing. After backing up to itunes and restoring I was finally able to delete the watch app. Would not let me delete watch app prior to the restore process. Note that app still crashed after restore. New app was then downloaded and watch paired synced and configured. Hopefully will stay paired. Also fixed it by restoring my iphone 6 backup to loan iPhone 8 without any other changes so change of hardware models also resets issue. Shame I couldnt keep the 8... Whatever it is... Good luck folks. Took me hours of my time.

Pairing to another phone wont change the state of your phone, only the watch. I tried that and it didnt help. What I did to resolve the " you cant delete your watch app because its paired" issue - I backed the iphone up to itunes. then reset -erase the phone. Then restore from backup. Then delete the watch app. then download new watch app. then paired to watch. Working for three days OK now. Be VERY careful with the backup and restores so you dont lose any data!! I also have backups to Icloud.

This totally worked for me!!

I think the key is to remove your watch from BlueTooth manually before running a back-up, then when you restore from this back-up the Watch App has no reference to a paired phone and enables you to delete the app (and re-download from the AppStore).

In my case having tried everything I had already factory reset my Series-6 before I got to this solution, but after a long Restore another 15 minutes to set-up the watch again wasn’t going to bother me.

Insanity! I just came from the Apple Store where they did a complete reboot AND switched out the SIM card for an unrelated issue. Everything worked great for about a week. Now the watch app crashes on the phone! Phone and watch stopped synching. Seems like there are tons of people with the same issue. Yet, no bug fix from Apple. Wiping my phone again in hopes that it will fix the issue is crap! $1700 worth of electronics should not stop working without apparent reason. Apple support on the phone actually told me to reset my watch......well, since the APP ON MY PHONE ISN'T WORKING....HOW am I supposed to pair them again? Then I have a non-functional watch to boot. Why do I have to point that out to a support person???? Come on, Apple! So disappointing!

I am in the same boat as everyone else, upgraded to apple watch 5 series from 1 and several days after my apple watch unpaired and apple watch app keeps crashing. I restored my iphone using my mac and reset clean the apple watch, still no good. About to return the new watch back to store! So frustrating! 4months and no resolution?? #applefail

I bought the Apple Watch six and for two days the app worked fine on my iPhone. Now the Apple not open any further on my iPhone and it does not connect to my watch anymore. I just got the new Apple update today, hoping that it would fix this incredibly ridiculous issue, but no, still not working. You pay good money for a brand new watch, and it doesn’t even work right, Apple is going downhill quickly.

Apple, if you care about your customers, fix this issue that you most certainly know about.

Same here mate. :( Bought Apple Watch 6 Nike Edition last week. It worked for 2 days then Watch app started crashing. New iOS 14.3 still didnt fix it. **** Apple do something!!!! Im not going to factory reset my mobile with thousands of photos, dozens of apps and 20,000 of songs. Just allow us to remove the app and download again as it fixes the issue. As it says that Apple Watch is still paired to mobile cant remove the app.

I also have backups to Icloud to be sure. There is a tip above to remove the watch from bluetooth manually before the backup which I had also done. Seems like a good idea. Good luck
