Health app massive and draining battery fast in IOS 14

Since upgrading to iOS 14:

  1. Battery used to drain from 100% to 70% in 8 hours, now drains to 30% in same time.
  2. Health app is primary culprit, despite not accessing it on screen.
  3. Health app contains a ridiculous amount of data. 56 Petabytes. Or 56,000,000 Gb. This means the bar graph of data above is useless. On the positive side, the health app probably contains enough data to create a passable clone of me in the event of my death.
  4. Phone is hot all of the time.

iOS 14 has not been a good experience for me so far.

Update

So far, regular resets and the like have yielded no results. Nor has deleting data from sources, such as standing time, steps etc etc.

I have reverted to a complete erase of all data and settings and am now restoring from my iCloud backup. Clearly, this is an annoyance and a waste of data transfer, but I think this may work. So far (half way through restore) Health data is at a few hundred megabytes. I hope it doesn’t try to download the remaining 56 PB....

But did it also fix your battery drain issues? While the size of my Health app is normal (ca. 900 MB) since iOS 14 it is responsible for over 50% of battery drain. My 11 Pro runs very hot and battery life is significantly worse. If a factory reset fixes the battery drain issue caused by the Health app I'll take on the hassle of restoring from backup.

Yes. Battery drain is now normal, as is the heat produced.

During the (large) restore and photo indexing for the first 12 hours or so, there was a bit of background activity and battery/heat still going on.

now the restore seems fully complete, and my battery performance is back to normal. I only hope the 2-4 days of my phone working hard haven’t degraded the overall battery life.

in sum: a full wipe and iCloud restore fixed my health app size, excessive battery drain and high temperature issues.
